@blurryface... Thanks. I'm glad to have knocked the Namath off my list a while ago. That card was a PSA 5 that I broke out to get signed. I had won a Fantasy Football league one year a while back and used the prize to buy that card. I think it cost $400, if I recall. Namath was $180 at a signing, so I've got a bit over $600 into it with shipping and such. I don't know what the card (signed or unsigned) would sell for today.

easy todd. i can read signals pretty easily. so you're basically telling me to paypal you $1200. got it. and sending now!
but seriously, that's the way to do it. that method and converting blue flips is/was the absolute best way to get into this game and stretch your dollar.
was it a private signing? or did you get the meet and greet too?

Perhaps it was a straight exchange?
Todd Tobias has probably done as much if not more than Joe Namath.
Before you call me nuts, Joe only helped make the league credible and memorable. Todd works to ensure its never forgotten.
Which is more important to the AFL’s legacy?
Yes, that just happened.

Lol. If I was that smart I would have done it more than once. I just wanted to get a Namath done to add to my signed 1965 Topps set, so once I got it I pretty much forgot about it.
I think it was a Tri-Star signing and I sent the card up with an LCS that was setting up at the show and getting some stuff signed. With all of my AFL work, I have never had any personal contact with Joe Namath. Bummer, as I'd love to speak with him.

Wow. That is some pretty high praise. Thank you. I can probably say that I have written far more about the AFL than Joe Namath. I can also be fairly certain that his few books have attracted more eyeballs than all of my efforts put together, so I still fall far behind. But I'm still working on it! ;-)

Todd,
You’ve put men in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH that otherwise would not have been there.
I’d never suggest one rest on their laurels. But it’s certainly ok to reflect on them over a nice scotch. 😉
Since you don’t recognize your own level of importance, I suggest that you start with Joe Namath or Johnny Robinson. Reach out to either and tell them about yourself and ask to meet. You will get a yes. Set it up through their publicists and brag a tiny bit to them about who you are I.e. tell the truth. If I know you, this last bit will be far out of your character.
But you haven’t met anyone yet, now, have you?
Chance favors the bold. Or like my first boss said (and, yes, I’m cleaning it up):
Step one to (dat)ing the homecoming queen is asking her out.
Good luck,
Tim
PS - For those wondering WTF? Google Todd Tobias and Johnny Robinson and pick an article. Any article.

@1951WheatiesPremium - Again, thank you for the kind words. I've met plenty of AFL people, some I am in contact with on a weekly, if not almost daily basis. Sadly, most of my guys have passed away in recent years and we are losing AFL members at an ever increasing rate. My wife and I were Johnny Robinson's guests at his HOF induction. He sat us with his family at the events. I didn't actually get to meet him because the HOF had the inductees time scheduled to the minute. It was really amazing how busy they were. It was also a challenge because Johnny has extreme difficulty speaking, the result of a stroke he suffered in 2004. But I have no complaints; his gestures were very generous and I am still in regular contact with his son. I've never reached out to Namath, so have never met him. I really can't say how easy or difficult that process might be.

Did you really just ask if it was ok for your Mt. Rushmore to be all on one mountain?
Have you seen Mt. Rushmore?
sadly not. after the decision of wayfair vs south dakota which brought sales tax to e-commerce resulting in a 7.5% increase on all my ebay purchases, i refuse to go anywhere near that place! 😉

Always looking for 6th, and beyond
If anybody would care to help me carve out number 6 - I would love to acquire and slide a 1955 Bowman Mantle (8) and/or a 1957 Topps Mantle (8) into the mix ....
