As I Sell My Collection It Gets Easier

As I have posted on here over the last few years, I have been wanting to sell off/liquidate a decent portion of the items I have
accumulated over many years. It is kind of tough parting with lots of the coins for one reason or another. I can justify one or more reasons to keep a certain coin and not put it up for sale. As of late, I have now sold some of my "harder to part with" coins. My 09-S VDB, 32-D Quarter, and a few others have now been sold. I do realize I can/could add them to my holdings at any given time I care to.
They will not be the exact same coin that I had before, but they are not simply irreplaceable.
I could buy/add them at any time that I want.
I may even upgrade if I was to purchase them again.
Either way, I am happy just knowing that I could enter back into this crazy hobby anytime I choose.
Thanks for your comments..
Here is a fave of mine for whatever reason..

Good post
Yup, as time passes our feelings may change about our collecting ventures. It's happened to me too. There's a few pieces I regret selling when I bowed out. Since I've come back the new pieces bring happiness.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Nice 16-D
Is this a complete liquidation, or all but just the absolute most special? Like that Merc!
Thanks for posting. It's a lot more fun to buy than to sell coins, so I hope you did OK.
This Merc is listed on the bay as of right now...
For the vast majority of us, the story is the same. Nearly everything is replaceable but maybe not look exactly the same. And selling is where you find out how well you bought and how well you kept records if you end up with a 1099.
You are still young Lee and will get the bug again later on in life. Collecting coins is like a yoyo.

Nice 16d
I need to let a few go, just having a hard time pulling the trigger.
Thank you Bob, I do understand.
My eyes have taken a downward turn on me very rapidly and that really kind of sucks, as i'm trying to inspect each coin for a reason to keep it in my collection.
I'll keep listing on E-Bay....
Buying and selling frequently just to feel the rush can be really expensive and not accomplish much. Unfortunately lots of people do this. Dealers love them. Thinning out every few years and going in other directions can be incredibly useful, especially if you’re gaining knowledge & becoming more discerning. Thinning out and putting coins on the back burner is also perfectly fine sometimes.
Best of luck in your endeavors. As fun and interesting as they are, at the end of the day, coins are just things, and ultimately not that important.

I sold some coins this year... and I agree, it was easy once I got used to the idea.
It's not that I lost interest in coins, I just realized that most coins are not irreplaceable. And, I'd rather have the money tied up in WOW coins or spend it on things for my family.
My current "Box of 20"
Tough times. I sold a lot. We were hit with big expenses. Home owners insurance quadrupled. Insane CA property taxes. Upkeep and improvements.
How sweet it was to manage costs by selling coins I bought years ago.
I'd love to brag about the gains. There weren't many.
OTOH, coins did a lot better than time shares, golf club memberships and exotic cars. So glad I didn't have boats.

If you re-enter the hobby, perhaps try collecting coins which are not readily replaceable.

That 1916-D Mercury Dime is attractive. Most of the pieces you see at the shows are cleaned white with AG-3 sharpness.
That wasn't you selling me 3 '09-S VDBs , last week, was it ?
No, I only had one left in my collection.
Sold the others quite a while ago.
Nice one!
I have contemplated selling some coins...still thinking about it.... Tough decision for me. Always collected...more and more. Very difficult to part with anything... even the not so special coins. Oh well... will continue to 'contemplate'. Cheers, RickO
I sold my pride and Joy Trade Dollar set and it made me a better collector and like trade dollars even more. It forced me to focus on special stuff and not just set fillers and upgrades. I have a new focus I am working on behind the scenes and the discovery process is really what the hobby is about.

If you are trying to sell your collection, I would recommend selling your favorite coins first. Once you overcome that hurdle, it is much easier to sell everything else.
[Note: this is not the same as thinning or refocusing a collection.]
Well, I am selling some of the Key Dates I have before some other common stuff, BUT, I'm holding my complete Morgan Set 'til last.
After completing a set, the joy of ownership fades pretty quickly for me. Selling allows me to recoup funds to do it again.

In light of the recent policy change at eBay do you still feel good about selling your collection there or is your local coin dealer a better option? eBay and PayPal fees eat about 13% but that seems better than my local dealer offers. I don’t fault them, they are running a biz, I’m just curious about your thoughts.
Sold off all my series over the last several years. Was surprisingly easy to part with them and no regrets. Type is another matter, to me. Each coin is different and US type has always been my fist love. My medals will be the last to go if I liquidate. They are practically irreplaceable, took years to locate and I'm not done.
