All 70s OPC Sets are great, excluding 1973, obviously. OPC was really handcuffed with that debacle of a set. Wish they would have rebelled and tried something more interesting for that year.
Kiss me once, shame on you. Kiss me twice.....let's party.
65 Tanana & 69 Catfish need upgrade.
70 Foster shows the diamond limit I can hack. It presents very well and will stay.
72 Alexander is stunning! Had a moderate amount of wax on top but that’s completely gone now thx to one of my wife’s stockings. That ironically she uses as well to buff out impurities in her crafting lol.

Thank you. That sounds like a team set worth putting together.
Two of my favorites from my registry set. Darn near impossible to find both reasonably well centered and without stray ink.
I have 15 at PSA in the "grading" stage right now, including some real tough ones like #18 Dave Cash, #25 Rennie Stennett, #57 Reggie Smith, and #222 Davey Lopes. This is my first time subbing them, so it will be a learning experience for me.
The remaining graded cards that I need hardly ever come up for sale as there are so few of them graded. Therefore, I've resolved myself to the fact that in order to complete the graded set, I'm going to have to sub most of the remaining ones I need. Fortunately, I have most of the needed ungraded examples. I've been gobbling them up whenever I see really nice, ungraded examples of low pops (btw, I'm not the one who bought up the ones mentioned a few posts up). I'm glad I did so starting over a year ago.
Anyway, it's nice to see this set gets some recognition.
If anyone has a #162 Fred Lynn and #134 Jeff Burroughs in a 7 or 8 or 9oc that they would be willing to part with, please let me know.

WOW thanks for sharing that! I'm stoked that this thread is bringing out some OPC'ers!
If you look back my Cash & Stennett ain't too shabby

Yes, those two absolutely caught my eye. As did the Barr, Langford, Porter, and others that are very difficult to find centered. You have some very nice '78 OPC's!
Pop 1s last I checked, and pack pulled. I sold the Garvey MVP card a while back.

Awesome cards in this thread. I am a huge fan of the "rough cut."

Gonna need to upgrade 95 Murcer I do think. Funny how he is significantly OC on the left but not at all really on the right. He’s squared up too. Strange.
94 Staggs & 98 Matlack both testing my limits on DC. They stay for now.

I really appreciate the comment! I’m having a blast. I actually credit @ahopkins for kicking me in the ass in getting all of my raw reg Topp’s 78’s sorted which allowed me to start with this project.

So I have 22 cards on my upgrade list through 144 so far. An 85% set thumbs up rate! Just three of those are HOF’ers. This has been one hell of a main batch I picked up from balco (Steve). Plus I ripped about a dozen wax packs.
Love that Chambliss. I've been looking at my own 78s (Topps AS Cards) and I literally have dozens of raw copies of most of them that I've never even sorted through. I do have many copies graded already as well. Actually, I have six 78 Reggies submitted right now (one of my all-time favorite cards). I also found a plastic case of well over 100 raw George Foster AS cards that I've never reviewed. I stashed a ton of 78 All-Stars a while back in hopes of getting to them one day. This is a great set and I am going to begin the sorting process soon! BTW - A green rubber band means "unsearched" in my sophisticated inventory system.
Ok. Enough of that. I'm sure you get the picture. I DO NOT have that many raw Bretts nor Carews but the rest are similar...even Burleson! LOL I've got some work to do! I am liking the 78 set more and more....

lol love the old school inventory classification. I'm pretty old school too. No spreadsheets, etc....
But the green bands takes the cake. Cool! It's great to hear you are being motivated a bit? What's not to like with 78's? I mean in an age where cursive writing has become obsolete we have all of these cards in vivid color with cursive team names to look back on !

I am just now putting together all the OPC sets and I have really enjoyed them. I have a duplicate 1973 OPC set but still looking for the 1971 and 1972 to complete my 1970s run. Very tough to find I might add.
Good luck with your 1978 OPC set. The Murray is extremely nice.
I love this thread. Because it is so popular, I'll let it be known that I am putting together a 79 OPC baseball set, but in about VG condition. The only two cards I need are 51 Ryan and 343 Rose.

I thought the Winfield was a great looking card too!
I agree with you that a tilted card looks worse than one that's a bit off center.
Thanks for posting these beauties!

I don't know what I like more, the cards or the passion. I'm going it call it a tie since they are both blazing. Can't wait to see the rest.

I’m up to about card #80 and this is what I found off your list. If you would like any of
them, let me know.
PM SENT @jayhawke
Thanks!
lol love the old school inventory classification.

The Eddie Murray sheet. Looking great nestled up at the top left!
Three HOF’ers on this sheet. 155 Niekro is ROUGH but in such an awesome O-Pee-Chee way.
160 Joe Morgan is a hair too OC for me and 161 Ed Ott needs to go. These two need upgrades.

That DeJesus looks pretty darned square. Rough cut but like you said, that's part of the OPC charm.
I found a few more off your list.
Jeff,
Put Manning, Thormodsgard, and May on that list along with Garvin from yesterday I'm sure I can make it happen in the end

Love the Tim Foli Mets card in a Giants uni. Another solid card and I bet @grote15 loves this card too.

I have a 71 Munson if you need it. Its VG to G
I love this thread. Because it is so popular, I'll let it be known that I am putting together a 79 OPC baseball set, but in about VG condition. The only two cards I need are 51 Ryan and 343 Rose.
Royalbrett - if you like this Ryan, PM me and it’s yours - consider it an early Christmas present.
Separately, do you think this regular issue Eddie can grade an 8 given the top left corner and the surface bubble?
Corner will kill you.
