2 updates 11/17 _ Consider Dip? Actual Coin Star find November 15th Nob Hill (1925)

Sorry, had to share. Got this this morning and it made my day to say the least...!
1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Commemorative coin, and I'd have to say MS state...
I will not dip, this coin is preserved.
November is my Daughter's birthday month, so I consider it lucky. Found this 1964 dime at Safeway this AM while buying grapes.
I am lucky because there are 6 Coin Stars close to me, as as much as I hate COVID (as all) it allows me to work from home and I can visit Coin Stars easily and as often as I want/can. I am working from home, so the gas to visit a Coin Star machine is an easy wash...
I like silver and have been very lucky to say the least, so I continue to fish, and as I tell my Brother's " Ride a hot streak..."
Thank to you all for your advice, I_ do value_ it and appreciate it. Thanks Joe
Good Luck Fishing..

Great find, but the coin is far removed from mint state.

Respectfully, may not it the picture, but close up, the coin has amazing detail Thanks Joe
I just wonder what other "collector" coins may have made it through the coinstar machine??? only someone without coin knowledge would have been so dumb as to dump this coin, maybe a "missing" collection.. or worse??
That is an insanely cool find for Coinstar!

I thought he meant "MS state" to be Mississippi state as some of these coins were counterstamped with state initials.

That is a cool find. I’ve given thought to going around to coinstars and doing roll hunting but I just don’t have the time for it. So I’ll enjoy these vicariously...

Regardless of what detail you see on the coin, it’s been noticeably circulated/worn and is nowhere close to uncirculated. Uncirculated examples are very common and images of them are readily available on line, if you care to see what they look like.

Agree, always believe, kids taking grandpa's coins... It was alone in the return with a penny... Of course made my Sunday!!!
I have a Sunday ritual, there are 4 Coin Stars close to me, two in my town and two in the town over,,, I have 2 brothers (both coin collectors) who live in Chicago, I call one while driving to the two stores in the town next to me and check the two Coin Stars, and call the other brother on the way back. When talking to my second brother I found this coin at the Nob Hill...
That is an amazing coinstar find. However, it is not even close to mint state. That being said, it is a nice coin and I would love to find one like it. Cheers, RickO
Mint State or not that's a helluva find!
Great find!

Ricko, I respect the heck out of you, don't argue that this coin has not been loved, cherished, and yes, we all know where I found it, but looking at it under magnification, all the stars on the reverse are visible and all the coins high points shows no signs of scratch wear.
If you say it's not, than I concede, but damn close based on what I stated above. The coin could use a good bath..
Respectfully, Joe
@Joe_360 .... I know you really like the coin... and ownership always adds to the perceived grade... however, listen to those who do not own the coin....or, submit it, and let us know what the TPG calls it. Enjoy the coin, no one said it was not a great find...Cheers, RickO
Thanks Ricko, it's going into a 2*2 and than a album sheet. Have a nice evening, cheers, Joe
That's the most amazing Coinstar find yet.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
It looks like a dirty au to me so I guess that makes it almost not even close to uncirculated.
Great find!
Even tho' coin is circulated, it is still an awesome find in a coinstar.

Fantastic find, absolutely. It has nice remaining detail, yes, but I agree with those who say it is nowhere near Mint State. Wear is pretty obvious on the high points of the design.
Great find.

Thanks to all who took the time to view and provide comments and feedback. I do appreciate all.
If you saw my other post for feedback on E-Z-Est, based on feedback, I have purchase some and await the package.
I believe that this coin may be a good candidate to try it on (let me know if you disagree please)
Really, this coin looks better in person than the photo's, so I will post new pictures after the dip.
To honest, I seen many coins at MS62 and MS63 that I don't understand how they got there...
Thanks again, Cheers, Joe
BTW; Photo of the other coin in the return; (along with a single nasty Lincoln)

I would not dip that coin, but that’s just me. I sort of like the original look and it’s a Coinstar trophy find.
I agree that it is a lightly circulated example. An awesome coin star find. I would have reservations about dipping a circulated piece. I have no personal experience with using the dip so I can't forecast what the result would be. If you do it, I would like to see the results. I would be concerned about burning the center while trying to lighten the rims. I don't think I would go for a full bright white look with this one.
You might want to think twice about dipping the coin. It appears to have no remaining luster and if dipped, will likely end up looking washed out and obviously cleaned.
Any other suggestion? Or leave as is? Thanks Joe
Nice score
Leave It As It Is. There an eye appeal there unique to this coin. If you’re curious as to “grade” feel free to submit to the hosts. You’ll get an opinion on the originality of the surfaces. If it returns slabbed and straight graded be Happy with it and respect their conclusions. It IS appealing, regardless of TPG opinions. Don’t clean it. This forum can be bRuTaL an times, you’ll lose a lot of love doing an amateur dip.
Look at all that dark tarnish. Dip it!
Leave it as is. The coin looks great and original.
Dipping it to remove the dark color from the surfaces of the coin will destroy the positive eye appeal the coin has.
No! I like the way it looks. Leave it as it is.

I am really conflicted by this thread.
One of the coolest Coinstar finds ever. (Congratulations!).
but...
One of the worst grading assessments ever. (No offense).
It looks honest and good as is. A nice circulated example.
I think a lot of that darkness is actually dirt or heavy oxidation that might interfere with the dip, so I have no idea what it would end up looking like.
Right now it is a trophy to be proud of. If you dip it I fear it may end up as ugly and impaired.
Great find but agree with the above statements that there is a zero chance that the coin is MS
Latin American Collection
As is. Based on your picture, I don't think there's anything you can do to the coin that would improve its looks. And a lot you could do to make it look worse.
I have to be honest, I respect all the inputs I receiving, BUT this coin look far better close up than the pictures,,, and I used my magnifier. Far from an expert and don't clam to be, but this coin looks nice up close..
I know where I found it, but why would someone use it it circulation, and if used, why would the merchant not remove it???
I'll concede, but I'd have to say AU 55/58 at worst... It's knocking on the door....
Thanks TO ALL, Joe
I would leave the coin alone. If you’re considering a dip practice first on junk silver.
Leave it as is, that coin is— you can always dip it at some point but you can’t un-dip it.
The market has more than enough cleaned stone mountains.
Prices on even circulated stone mountains are very strong lately and I really like the looks of that one.
If this was graded PCGS AU-53 would you take it out and dip it? I know I wouldn’t!
That half is beautiful as-is...

Appreciate the specimen as is. Cherish the find.
.....looks like we could get a no reserve auction going right now, right here!
I think the OP is getting a lesson on “grade vs. eye appeal”
Go to eBay, find a Stone Mountain half that looks like what you're thinking this one could look like after dipping and post the link here.
Leave it as is and place it into an Album or into a Capital Holder.
Use it as the first coin in building an XF-AU circulated set of early commemorative half dollars that all have the same appearance as your Coin Star Stone Mountain.
Such a set would be very, very eye appealing and much more interesting than a similar set of circulated commems that have been dipped, stripped and rendered very bland and unattractive.
Awesome find! Well done.
Please leave it be...don’t clean coins.
Dave
It's a nice coin with well earned toning. It is not uncirculated. Please do not dip it. The Stone Mountain commemorative has always been one of the best looking halves in the series (I'm partial being from Georgia). I think you will be disappointed in how the coin looks if you strip away the toning with dip. Enjoy it for what it is. A nice, high grade circulated commemorative half dollar that you got for no more than gas money to check the machine.
I like the "circ-cam" look of it. It is not spotted or splotchy.
Also, the difference in price between the EF, AU, and lower UNC grades is not very signiciant.
For either one of those reasons, I would not "dip" it.
