Thanks, 80s. I bought the Ruth from Memory Lane at a National in Chicago. I bought the Gehrig out of an ad in the old SCD. Remember that? It was monthly and was like a newspaper. The old days.....
I collected Star Wars cards as a kid, mostly the Green and later series. The movies were coming out in the beginning of my collecting time. I would eventually trade them all but one I really liked for some sports cards to get out of the non-sports game. I don't think i was ever aware of those tray cards though. That is the kind of thing I would love if I collected Star Wars stuff now. Are they tough to find? I would imaging nice copies are for sure, like Hostess cards. I remember the Black break series and the BK Empire Strikes Back panels, but not those candy trays! Very cool.
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Sports Collectors Digest ... back in the 80's I had a subscription and LOVED it. It opened up the card world to me, to see other cards that my local stores didn't carry. I thought they went out of business in the 90's, but I saw a current issue a few years ago at a local card show. Great information in them and awesome that they also got you hooked up with that beautiful Gehrig. Once again, BEAUTIFUL pair of cards there!

Here’s the gibby in all its glory! It looks SO GOOD! I’m thrilled with it! Looking at other 9’s in the APR, I think this blows away the centering on the rest!
I was a big minor leagues IP grapher in the early 90s with the Syracuse Chiefs being my home team. By the summer of 95 I was going into my senior year of high school and had moved onto other things: working, girls, parties in fields, etc. However, as a huge Yankees fan, I couldnt pass up the opportunity when Columbus came into town. The team was loaded.
After the game, Posada, Mo, and Ruben Rivera were all out signing in the parking lot. It was pretty chaotic. The clubhouse door swings open, and its Jeter. Me and another guy instantly see this and race over. The other guy goes first and Jeter signs his entire page of cards, probably 6-8. I go next and put my page of 8 cards down and now everyone else in the parking lot is catching on and makes their way over. Jeter only signs one; his Topps rookie gold. At the time I was sort of disappointed, as I wanted him to sign his minor league UD card if I had a choice. In hindsight, Im glad he went with the Topps gold. Although in hindsight, I would have tried double dipping him.
Had it slabbed a few years ago. By far my favorite card in my collection, mainly because of the memories of me getting it signed personally.
These are colorful, vintage Yankees. If you were a kid under 14 on August 28th, they were free. Watch out, though, there’s blue Sharpie markings on more than half...😉

The 1954 is more popular because it’s his rookie, but this is my personal fave.

This is probably the third time I’ve posted it but it’s still new to me and I really just can’t take my eyes off it.

I'm no Mantle collector, but the eye appeal of that one is off the charts!
