Coin Rotated In Holder

JeffMTampaJeffMTampa Posts: 3,323 ✭✭✭✭✭

I recently purchased this Quarter in an older PCGS holder. The listing photos didn't show the coin in the holder- it arrived with the coin rotated about 90 degrees:

Anyone know of a fix that doesn't involve tapping the coin on a table for an hour or two?

I love them Barber Halves.....

Perhaps an electric shaver or beard trimmer would work also?

Simply tapping the slab on a hard surface will cause it to rotate in the holder. Good luck... Cheers, RickO

The electric tooth brush trick works pretty well, but it does not work every time.

I tried the electronics- no luck. I tapped the holder on a table for 20 minutes- it rotated both ways. After about 35 minutes of tapping it's fairly close to vertical. Now it's packed in a bag of Stay Puff Marshmallows to prevent future vibration.

Don't let the Stay Puff man get to close, he might get it out of shape for sure! 😂

Try two magnets, one on either side, and turn to desired view.

I find this sort of thing very annoying, and my attempts to fix it have seldom been successful. I have rejected coins for my collection because of this.

It seems PCGS could provide something like a sliver of plastic at the inside holder viewing edge that would fit just inside one of the reeds in a reeded edge coin... causing it not to turn in slab

I think they sometimes come from the factory rotated.

Those that come from PCGS improperly oriented are the ones most difficult to correct.

Otherwise, if it rotated out of position it usually can be rotated back (though it might very well rotate again in the future).
