Wow! I can not believe this. My Walker that was graded by NGC, a ms 64. Actually PCGS, viewed it to be an upgrade! Wow. I still cannot believe it. When I submitted the coin, I wanted to cross it mainly for the "missing initials " variety. Unfortunately, weeks ago I got the bad news that PCGS didn't find the coin to be that variety. Probably because it wasn't a complete missing initials? Anyway, I wrote on the form to not grade under a ms 63. Instead I received a ms 65. Thank you PCGS. Never in my wildest dreams. Lol. I know I didn't get the variety designation but at least I did get a rare upgrade. Wow. :D

MS 65

Congrats. but if it was another single coin submission, then I am thinking along these lines.

P.S. - I am no expert but don't see the initials, either.

Still amazed. Can't get over it. Lol. Can anyone here recall a NGC slab sent in to cross to a PCGS holder, receive a jump up, instead of a tumble down? Just curious? Thanks. I'm going to guess a very small % at that?

Nice Thumb and Index finger separation!

I would resubmit for the variety. Here is a close-up of one of the attributed varieties and there appears to be "some" of the "W" remaining...as does yours...it would be worth the value increase...to me.

Yes, amazing PCGS wouldn't give in to my variety but gave in to the boost of the grade? Lol. I was contemplating across the street but this would be crazy, even by my standards. Lol. Thanks for the kind words.

hmmm, yours also has a vertical die scratch in the C of America, like a coupe of the other attributed ones in coinfacts.

Funny, one of the attributed 67's CLEARLY has an AW on it. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/25391029

I hate to argue with PCGS, but I think they got it wrong on yours. (and that one with the initials)
This one just sold recently for $700- with trace initials... and CAC https://legendauctions.hibid.com/lot/64274928/50c-1945-missing-initials--fs-901--pcgs-ms64-cac/

IMHO clearly the variety should have been attributed. Kudos to the upgrade! Learn to grade so you can spot the upgrade potential and rely less on the "luck" of the draw. Walkers are a good set to learn to grade on... We have put together more than a few sets of Walkers over the years! Good mentors in here for the group as well.

Your devotion to a brand has put blinders on you, grades go up, go down, and stay the same on crossovers of all kinds. In the past I have sent in coins from NGC, NNC, ACG, and others all with up, down, and equal results, imo your result is not unusual.

I agree with what others have said. You've got the higher grade locked in, which is great, but I still think your coin should get the variety designation. I've looked at the CoinFacts images, plus images of several more coins listed on Heritage and Great Collections, and they all have a faint trace of the designer's initials left, just like yours. Clearly, that's just how this variety is.

I understand that sometimes they may waive the attribution fee in a case like this (since you already paid for it once and apparently did not get the right outcome) - might be worth checking into before you send in your next order.

It may be unusual in a general sense, but that's because you first need a coin where the first company graded it low and the second company graded it higher. If most coins are graded correctly, then the average coin won't change grades from one company to the next. Second, consider what coins are getting sent over. No successful dealer made their money crossing coins where, with an upgrade, the submission fee was half of the profit. From a psychological perspective, grading companies may be more hesitant to cross and upgrade coins that are worth more, so the coins normally sent to be crossed are less likely to get upgraded. Lastly, it depends on what you send in? Crossing everything? Most won't upgrade. Have a good eye and pick the very best? You'll do much better.

Just to let everyone know, I contacted PCGS this morning, by phone, and discussed about my coin. I mainly asked her why they decided to not designate my coin to the variety. They said, my area was too strong of an appearance of the initials. I mentioned the die scratch (Die Marker) on mine as on all the established holder of the variety. She asked me to send her some photo's to her email. I did. 6 different pics. Some of my coin, as well as, some of established ones with the same slight appearance of initials as mine has. Along with pics of the die scratch. On mine, then theirs. Wish me luck. She said she'll get back to me in one to two days. Fingers crossed. This can be a difference of price from $90 to $1700! :o

It's funny you should ask, thanks. No, not a word just yet? They might of blown me off? I'll give them another week. Then maybe, I'll get back to them, maybe not? From another member's advise, I can always wait to send in again to try to get the variety designation on another submission attempt. or even go across the street? Nevertheless, at least I KNOW, by the die markers, that I do have the variety. I'll keep ya guy's posted. Thanks

If PCGS got it wrong, and it appears that they did, they should do this for free with paid shipping both ways. It is not hard to attribute varieties, especially when the collector has to point the variety out to the grading service and pay a substantial amount for the variety designation.

"She said, she sent my photos over to the proper department and they concluded that my coin has too strong of the "initials" showing to designate it the variety. "
Oh well? I guess I'll have to wait and resubmit the coin some other time? Or try across the street (NGC)? Bummer. :/
