I’m glad about this. I would think it’ll definitely make it through the senate since it’s non-partisan.
I'd welcome a 100 year anniversary tribute. I hope it moves forward.

This will be good if it all gets approved.... We can hope for a great design....and .999 silver. Cheers, RickO
i'll be inline to get me one!
While I love the idea, how crazy will the price be....
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Congress or a committee will find a way to mess it up.
@thefinn .... Sad, but so frequently true....Cheers, RickO
I hope it has a reasonable montage so I can snag one, but not too much where they’re dirt common.
Hopefully these are coins that classic and modern collectors can agree on!
Awesome.

Interesting. With how the mint has been lately it will probably be:
And since they’ve done cent, nickel, and dime in W mint marks there will be a half dollar W coin with purchase.
TurtleCat Gold Dollars
Wow, that's a lot. I didn't realize there were so many.
The only saving grace may be that these are only done for one year. Looking at all the years some classic commems were issued for, like the Oregon, makes my head spin.
That would be great ... but I don't think so.
Looking forward to a 2D Spaghetti haired Morgan dollar
I like the sound of it thus far
If you read the bill, it appears it won't be expensive (if purchased from the mint).
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
The ONLY one that is sure to make a profit is the U.S. Mint
They can print out a picture of a Morgan dollar and make a sticker out of it.. it’d have about the same relief as most of today’s print-a-coin designs.
I hope scalpers and bots don't ruin the release. Please be unlimited mintage.
I wonder if the Morgans will have the reverse of 1878, 1879, or 1921, or if the Peace will be in high relief.
Collector, occasional seller
The United States Mint has Lost money on the numismatic side in FY2018, FY2019 and I expect in FY2020...
Did they get D Carr's permission?
This might put a crimp in his issues next year.
they need to be in 90% as they were in 21. it's not like they don't have a source for 90% already.
being a purist, I'd say both designs of 21. there are a few designs for the morgan. it'd be hard to pick one outside of the 21.
What would be awesome, though not possible overall, is to have each dollar minted where they were originally minted in the past. So PDS for Peace and PDSOCC for Morgan. So a nice 8 coin set. That would be awesome in the right kind of holder.
TurtleCat Gold Dollars
They certainly have the technology to have a high relief peace dollar that is easily coined. Also 2021 may be the best opportunity to get a proof morgan cheaply without spending $1,000+. I want to buy coins from Laura Sperber one day, but I don't want to buy a proof morgan from her lol.
would people be interested in DMPL business strikes?
what if they made DMPLs and Proofs?
I know I'd like to see DMPLs of the throwback quality and not current tech, near mirror, of the the bullion 5ozers they used to have. (used to have... grumble grumble)
This is what they say regarding the cost:
_____SEC. 6. SALE OF COINS.
(a) Sale Price.—The coins issued under this Act shall be sold by the Secretary at a price equal to the sum of—
(1) the face value of the coins; and
(2) the cost of designing and issuing the coins (including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, overhead expenses, marketing, and shipping).
(b) Bulk Sales.—The Secretary may make bulk sales of the coins issued under this Act at a reasonable discount.
_
I read this as a fairly reasonable price if they mint enough of them.
I will buy some
Aerospace Structures Engineer
These will be a big universal hit with the public and generate new coin interest for a long time, if the Mint will just do their best to replicate original high relief and high quality like the originals (or better, as after all it has been 100 years), and not play games with dozens of finishes, colors, mints, etc.
Make this classic a true 1921 replica, with a 2021 date, and let every single person in America get a chance to buy it at the Mint price like it should be.
Edited to add, that we need to have much more general public involvement in coins. The number of Mint subscribers matters, just like any internet business. Advertise. Limiting the Mint market to things like 1,945 privy's to computer bot gurus, is counter-productive to collector interest.
The public needs to have every opportunity to buy Mint products, just like we all did 40 years ago when it was all mostly done by US Mail.
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
Compare that to the Palladium Law:
‘(3) SALE OF COINS.—Each coin issued under this subsection shall be sold for an amount the Secretary determines to be appropriate, but not less than the sum of— ‘‘(A) the market value of the bullion at the time of sale; and ‘‘(B) the cost of designing and issuing the coins, including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, overhead expenses, marketing, distribution, and shipping
The "Key" wording to both is "overhead expenses".
The Palladium sells for $700.00 premium to LBMA fixes.
I hope this passes.
I would prefer .900 pieces over .999 pieces personally!
Too bad they’ll use the laser for the frosting of the devices instead of the old pickling method. The nature and texture of the frost is so different. I like the pickling method much better even though laser etching is faster and more convenient for them.
TurtleCat Gold Dollars
true. the new frosting isn't nearly as nice as it used to be.
look at the price of the uncirculated coin sets. or proof sets, or burnished ASEs. these won't be affordably priced as people wish they would be.
They should make a circulating version the size of a sac dollar and get rid of the sac dollar.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
My understanding is they will be priced roughly at the levels of collector silver eagles (proof and burnished uncs), though the Peace dollar because of the high relief will likely be a little more.
Are they going to do that CC Morgan thing in Carson City?

No, it's too expensive to do that. The latest is that they will do a CC privy mark but that is not final as far as I know.
NO
i repeat NO privy marks. what purpose would it serve?
the billions of sacs don't circulate... not because they are ugly but because the paper is more convenient.
this is a non-starter. also, former chairman bernanke also pointed out to congress that having coin only dollars would cost the banks more. I think this is because coins are bought at face from the mint. paper money has printing costs paid for but the dollar amount is taken in the form of collateral instead of cash like the coins. the collateral is generally treasuries.
SEC. 3. COIN SPECIFICATIONS.
(a) $1 Silver Coins.—The Secretary of the Treasury (hereafter in this Act referred to as the “Secretary”) shall mint and issue $1 coins in recognition of the 100th anniversary of completion of coinage of the Morgan dollar and the 100th anniversary of commencement of coinage of the Peace dollar, each of which shall—
(1) weigh 26.73 grams;
(2) have a diameter of 1.500 inches;
(3) contain not less than 90 percent silver; and
(4) have a reeded edge.
(b) Legal Tender.—The coins minted under this Act shall be legal tender, as provided in section 5103 of title 31, United States Code.
(c) Numismatic Items.—For purposes of sections 5134 and 5136 of title 31, United States Code, all coins minted under this Act shall be considered to be numismatic items.
SEC. 4. DESIGN OF COINS.
(a) Design Requirements.—
(1) IN GENERAL.—The designs of the coins minted under this Act shall honor either the Morgan dollar or the Peace dollar, as follows—
(A) MORGAN DOLLAR.—The coins honoring the 100th anniversary of completion of coinage of the Morgan dollar shall have an obverse design and a reverse design that are renditions of the designs historically used on the obverse and reverse of the Morgan dollar.
(B) PEACE DOLLAR.—The coins honoring the 100th anniversary of commencement of coinage of the Peace dollar shall have an obverse design and a reverse design that are renditions of the designs historically used on the obverse and reverse of the Peace dollar.
Good grief, another recycled antique ... compliments of the US Mint.
I'm in for the 21 High Relief Peace proof version though.
Of note, there's no date requirement for the coin and there's also no stipulation when the program will end so it appears the Mint can create coins every year under this act!
That’s a bummer about the CC but high relief would be a cool reverse proof coin

I'll be in for a couple of proof examples of each. A traditional proof of a high relief Peace dollar would be stunning!
Glad my gooberment is busy working on such pressing bills when the whole country is in complete chaos. I'm glad for the coins but seriously this is what they are wasting their time on? Semper Fi!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.
BOOMIN!™
At least coins is something everyone can agree on!
I wouldn't mind! If they're going to be churning out modern youth sports junk every year, at least make some Morgans and Peace dollars every year for those who like the tried and traditional silver coins.
Perhaps sets will be available.
