Are they keeping the original designs ?
Or are they going to modify them, for artistic reasons ? Which will probably lead to a lesser-quality design.

I'm in if the Peace Dollar if it is original in HIgh Relief.
I'm NOT a real big fan of the Xmas-hatted Morgan dollar. I know it's NOT, it's phrygian.
But still, it reminds me of Xmas.

    Also, I hope they're 99.999 % silver.

My guess is they’ll treat these two designs, if the bill gets signed, like the 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint. They have the technology and a collector base who will pay a premium so there’s no reason for them to not do it right. The only problems, IMO, is that the silver won’t look quite right if they don’t use 90% and the surface finish won’t look anything like the originals.

Given they'll do it in .999 silver the coins just won't look right. Even if they go through the effort to ensure the same relief and curvature of the fields it just won't look right. I know all the reasons they won't go 0.900 but it should be. I thought the same with the centennial gold coins of 2016. They should have been in 0.900 fine and have had silver counterparts made to go with it in 0.900.

Yes, trust the US Mint to provide us with ????????????
I'm sorry folks but I will not be holding my breath on this one. If there is one thing wrong with our Mint it's imagination. Both the lack of and too much of. Just my thoughts on the subject and I do hope people will not be disappointed.

Looks like we will all have to make our burro reservations to get us to the bottom of the canyon.

The only way to get down there is to BASE jump. Are you down for this Captain? Low altitude, high risk, basically pulling the chute as soon as you jump :)

would really love if they started doing this, but see it so rarely done, even across all world mints - the modern dutch gold ducats are the only ones im aware of that have an ordering period after which that number of coins is minted

Agree and it should be measured in days rather than in minutes.

Does anybody know if these will be limited mintage coins?

If so, it will probably be another 10 minute sellout.

Not really given there are very few MS69 Morgans in the original series.

They would be stupid not to mint to demand. Perhaps we may see an overcorrection for the v75 program which results in a glut of 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars.

    “SEC. 7. Financial assurances.

The Secretary of the Treasury shall take such actions as may be necessary to ensure that the minting and issuing of coins under the Act will not result in any net cost to the United States Government.”

That means hundreds of thousands of coins Or prices will be out the roof...

You will have P, D and S and Probably privy marks for CC and O. Morgan and Peace. That's hundreds of thousand in Total...

Uh, that would be to demand for a LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME (ie days, like 3-4 or so) with HHL - not that the latter does much good....

the mint regularly puts out MS/PR coins in 70s

69 is an undesirable grade for a modern.

Oh I know, but the MS69 Morgans out there in the original series are a lot of money. That's my point.

The TV hucksters have already grabbed this one. My wife was channel scrolling the other day and caught a program that was advance selling these. With all the hoopla about historical coin, rarity, great value, etc.... only listened for a couple of minutes - then took some Tums and went back to what I was doing. Cheers, RickO

Why even give them such an idea? Are you a masochist? Or maybe a sadist to force me to get one for my gold set? Or both? :'(

These have to be silver only, please, they will already have too many old and new gold eagle reverse variations to even imagine.

Silver would be perfect. But thinking of the mint and how they've done tribute coins in the past....it's just like them to do something like that.
I blame @Rarity , he mentioned these in palladium and gave me the idea.
Then there's the mintage amounts that could be too small too as put forth by the Capt...

Naw....it'll just be silver and a mintage of 500,000. :):):)

Surprising the number of mints and varieties the 2021 Morgan's that will be produced.

  • COCollectorCOCollector Posts: 1,315 ✭✭✭✭✭

Does that mean the Philadelphia Mint will produce 2021 Morgan dollars with "CC" and "O" mint marks?

Or will the privy be something different from a mint mark?

Either way, I think it's likely to mislead folks to believe these coins were produced at Carson City and New Orleans.
