How is the '86 set not rookie cards for "hardly any players"? This is like the best rookie crop of all time isn't it? It may not be their "rookie" year but it's their first major card. If that's not the case, Wilt Chamberlain fans will be sad to learn that the 61 Fleer is not his rookie card.
I was referring to my thoughts in 1986 and how I didn't really care about the cards and that it was Jordan's 3rd year. Yes, now those are some of the best Basketball rookies money can buy....Barkley, Ewing...etc.
Not a basketball collector so never thought about it before. But living in Chicago everyone thought of the Star cards as Jordan’s rookie. The Fleer only became the rookie years later because PSA does not grade Star basketball. I have always wondered what would happen to the value of the ‘86 Fleer if they changed their mind. Would it remain more than the rookie card like the ‘52 Mantle or would it become less popular?

That was Reed's offer. He no longer works for BBCE.

I know that. He has been MIA since his buying trip started and figured he'd have opinions on this auction.
I've seen him posting on Facebook in unopened groups.

Many would consider their Star cards released in the years prior as their rookie cards.
I wasn't sure if the case was being wrapped because in the past I had inquired, but was told a regular sized case wouldn't fit in the machine. They may have a bigger machine now or have a manual way to wrap these cases.
Last I knew there were a number of cases (like Topps' 3 box rack cases) that can fit in their machine. But there are some larger cases that they can't wrap because they just don't have a big enough machine to do it. And, I suspect, the need/demand to wrap larger cases is so minimal it isn't worth the investment to purchase a machine capable of doing so. So maybe, with a 12 box case, they could wrap it.

I'm around. Buying deals but not documenting travel now. I'd hate to get criticized for being in "dangerous" state, even though I am following safety protocol.
This is just my .02 cents, but I kind of feel like the 1987 Fleer case is undervalued in relation to what the 1986 goes for. I've heard from different sources that it's just as rare if not rarer than 1986. I can't say I've seen an unopened case either

87/88 Fleer was a smaller print run than 86/87, but due to lack of rookies more of it has remained unopened. BBCE had two sealed cases of 87/88 in the past 8 years. One at the 2012 National for $14,000 that went unsold until Steve wrapped them FASC for $1000/box. He had another one at the 2017 National that sold as a sealed case for ~$65k. Presumably that one is still sealed and tucked in a collection.
I think this case has plenty of provenance. I would rather have it not wrapped instead of taking an extra trip across state lines and back. I am sure they know how to pack it properly but every time it gets shipped the cards inside get jostled. I tend to worry about things that don’t matter though

These boxes won’t be opened anyway. I understand the logic, but this isn’t an item that will be opened.

I think "The HOLY GRAIL of all unopened" would be a full box of 1952 Topps BB that was sold ~20+ yrs ago and I think it was $220k for 24 unopened packs with a box.

It wasn't high series though. If high series was found, it would be absolute insanity.

I don't think there are known/proven/graded high series pack in the market.

I thought it was a high series box but that it was a canada 4 card per pack version. Might be totally wrong but that is from memory. It also was re sold like months later after the original purchase and went for like 50,000.00 less the second time.

@secretstach - Correct Steve can wrap entire original cases.
Case is up over $1.2 Million
I would certainly want the cases wrapped before the seals popped. I'm surprised they haven't been wrapped yet.

Anybody think this hits $3 mil? $4 mil? My initial thought was $1.75-2, but seems it's likely to blow past that.

The wrap will help keep it in FASC status even if the tape deteriorates underneath the wrap... I think it adds value, just not in the normal sense.

In regard to the selling of empty wrappers/empty boxes. If memory serves, many here on the forum have commented their displeasure with this practice.

Fritsch had more than 2 cases, he has been advertising opened boxes with wrappers for many years in his mail order catalogs.
Gee, with the wrappers/box one could make their own case, for display purposes only.
Bid is currently $1,288,353 with 10 full days left!
I remember seeing multiple packs at a small store back in 86 gathering dust when I was in college. Of course, I walked right by them. Ugh.
36 hours left. Still at $1, 288, 353. Should be fun to watch.
I doubt it would go much higher, everyone can guess Fritsch has more in his vault.

and I quote.
"t the fact that these cards were from the high and semi high 5th and 6th series’ provides a potential bonanza for what is inside. "
One thing that is missing from this awesomeness is to stress the fact that the Mantle was Double Printed!!
The real item with that cert number does look great in its own right though:

Lol.... I couldn't wait!
