Good luck with those finding a gem! This one actually looks better than the 66 above but the large hit isn’t hidden as well.
Edit or maybe it is hidden better…
Overall I think it's better, but that scratch in the hair above his ear will hold it back. Honestly I think just the rim might hold it back...those rims are tough to find not ground up a bit lol.
Yeah, those damn perfectionist
But only when it’s modern!

But wait a minute grader number three says the rims are dinged up lol.

I really had fun today. I searched a box of half dollars and had amazing results. This box is the best I have ever searched and probably will never find a a box close to this one either. The clerk at the Credit Union said the driver dropped the box and he had to tape it back together
I will have to have him ask the driver to drop all future boxes. 😀😄😆 I found 76-40% silver & 4-1964 90% silver. I also found 3 plus 2021 D and 12-2024 D NIFC rolls. Not too bad for a few hours of fun.
I have 12 OBW NIFC rolls that may have silver seeded in them (the rolls are probably just 2021 D & 2024 Ds). If you want to take a chance, just give me a shout. 🙂

My bank will give me their customer wrapped rolls that they collect however, I have never come across a sealed box from the coin distributor that supplies the bank. Very nice find @OAKSTAR. I can’t wait to see what you find.

Yes, I’ve had banks re-roll coinage before they would sell it. It was a policy thing to guarantee it but they would typically be the same color not all mix matched like these.
They could have a very resourceful staff or else too little time to bother.
@OAKSTAR said: @Coinscratch - It wasn't the bank or the staff. It came right off the Brinks truck.
Those guys deliver bank to bank too, right? It’s not like they always come directly from the mint branch.
And this has come up before I remember jokingly saying that the driver was checking the coins.

Yes, I remember the conversation about a drive checking boxes for coins.

My bank says, that all of the coins turned into there bank and branches are given to and tagged as there coins when given to the sorting company. Then, those same coins are returned to there branches rolled and boxed. Anyway that is what my teller manager told me. Sometimes I will take a break on different denominations so they can replenish coins from possible additions that just came into the branch as accumulated change.
Picked up 2 boxes of halves yesterday, did one of them this evening.
A couple 40% with lovely originality.
A surprisingly nice 1988 D with luster and a touch of cameo and mirrors even.
An impaired proof is always fun too.

Let me see if I got this straight @CRHer700
Your bank gave you your own coins back (but straight from the truck allegedly)? So are you dropping at the same bank you're picking? If so that would be a No-No.

It was a different bank. It was in the wrong style box for the roll type, and had been rolled the way that I roll them. It happened one time and never happened since.

So, I do not damage the roll-sleeves.I open one end, dump out the coins and reuse the same sleeve. I swap box for box at my bank and my bank knows me and distributes the rolls to businesses and customers. It would be impossible for me to get my rolls back...
I haven't been posting pictures as of late as the W coin quality hasn't been great, but I did get a 1964-D quarter in August!

This one is worth posting again! Haven’t sent it off yet because I can’t decide if I would rather have the higher grade from PCGS or the better true view from CACD. I’m pretty sure PCGS would call it a 67+ while at CACD it could end up as a 66. But regardless of the grade the better image of the coin would probably bring more at auction because all the stealthy guys that knew it would upgrade.

What is that above the E in QUARTER on the reverse?
Struck thru? Why is that term always past tense, never mind 😁
Do you think acetone would pull that stain? I’ve already rolled it with MS70 and Q-tip. I won’t dare dip it in acid.
The acetone won't hurt anything, but no, if the MS70 didn't take it away, the acetone definitely will not. I assume you're talking about the tan-toned areas below:

Yes, i’m afraid that’s gonna hurt the final grade.
In all seriousness, a very quick dip in e-Z-est (1-2 seconds) would probably take away that tan toning, but the key is to then rinse it off as quickly and vigorously as possible. It's very easy to end up with a coin that is more toned than you started with if it's not rinsed off properly. Something to practice on other coins that you don't really care about.

And dilute the e-Z about 50/50 with distilled water...

A much gentler approach is a dip in ammonia (clear). Try this with coins you don't care about, but I have done quite a few and it will remove the brown toning most of the time. E-Z est can occasionally bring on another sort of brown toning that is more "fixed". I think you will see that is a much better approach.
The usual caveats wash with mild soap and water, then rinse, then ammonia, then liberal rinse, then tamp dry with high nap clean white cotton towel.....
Love that Milled British (1830-1960) Well, just Love coins, period.

About 15 years ago I lived in Maine and my neighbor and I were planning a large " yard sale ". II went to the bank the day before to get some 1 dollar bills and some change for the sales. I got 2 rolls of quarters and to my surprise all but 2 were silver.
The bank had closed but the next day I went right back and asked if they had any more rolls of quarters that had been " cashed " by customer's. I got 4 more rolls and ended up with about 70 more pre 64's. The best score I had in ages.

In looking at this one closer, it looks like a D over D mint mark. Not sure if that’s even a thing on this particular year.
You should show this to someone, perhaps get it attributed as a discovery coin.

It's not a mint set coin, I'm sure.
Funny thing is they could have made tens of thousands and it would never be spotted. People didn't care about clads in 1968.
Yes, it came from a mint set but the main problem now is I sold it on eBay earlier this year when I decided to purge my collection. I never paid it much attention after seeing the dark trueview and missing the mark. I guess I’ll need to start playing the resubmit game but that never struck me as professional.
I’ve evolved to an app called Collageable. Search an app store for collage apps.
I worked out the process below to get a solid black or white background.
In iOS the user can touch an image, an effect happens, the copy prompt appears, you copy, and it crops the coin free from the background.
iPad Pro two generations old - I do this on an iPhone XS phone too
Macro Mode app - take pics
copy photo in Photo app, crop the coin, and paste into Notes switched to night mode for black
Screen shoot in Notes with black background and edit in Photos if you need to crop out menu stuff, square the image frame if you want..
Put the photos in the collage app.
The pinching feature to zoom in and out makes it easy to correct size differences.
Thank for mentioning the pics. They’ll get better when I in-purchase features, buy new iPad, build a stand, and use a BT shutter. I do not post many coins because I figure these steps out step-by-step, and it’s slow. I have not begun to address lighting more than move my hand around.
