Not terribly exciting when compared to the wonderful unobtainable early gold examples posted here. It does have a cool factor, slightly larger than a nickel. That 1829 1/4 eagle above me looks semi PL, a WOW piece for sure.

Wild West Showman Samuel Franklin Cody ventured to Europe at the end of 1892 to take advantage of the new popularity of bicycle racing. In 1893 he offered $10,000.00 to $20,0000.00 to any racers on a single or tandem bicycle who could beat him riding his horse. Although original posters advertising these events have survived the tokens just didn't. This is the finest of 3 survivors I've tracked research wise by a huge margin struck for children who attended the Grand Match Horse-vs-Bicycle competition in France. The size of this token may very well be the reason for the lack of survivors.
It's amazing there are only 3 known survivors of what had to be a very large number issued. Congrats for picking up this difficult piece!
2019 saw my coin purchases drop off from prior years.
However I have three pick ups that are my favorites of this year.
At a local shop I picked up a 1964 OGP proof set containing a frosted AH half dollar for modest money Pretty cool.
The very next day at a different shop I picked up 5 more 1964 OGP proof sets containing frosted AH half dollars for modest money. Even more cool.
Finally at a local show I bought a 1965 SMS set in a capital holder containing a severely hazed over half dollar for modest money. When I gave the half a bath to remove the haze a possible DCAM coin was the result.
All of the above are widgets, but they are very eye appealing widgets.
This 1794 T-4/O.106 half dollar R-6- rarity from a Stack's auction of an old collection, with a new sticker. With prices lower from an earlier hoard dispersal, I was finally able to get a nice 1794 of a very rare variety (and a couple others):
Robert Scot: Engraving Liberty - biography of US Mint's first chief engraver
I didn't buy it but my favorite acquisition of 2019 is a commemorative. The L111 Super Bowl Commemorative Coin. It's 39mm and solid bronze. It's the flip coin used at the game. My boys went to the game and brought it back for me. Don't tell me it's not a coin. The COA clearly states that it is the Super Bowl 53 bronze flip coin. The rosewood box that it came in is also a work of art.
Two items obtained for myself jump to the fore but one was actually obtained in a trade (yes, they sometimes still happen) so it doesn't technically qualify. The other one that I'll share is this hand carved mother-of-pearl portrait by Adam Pietz of his daughter Dorothy. I won't own this one forever but it is too neat to make me lose interest for some time:
Missed a prime opportunity at 8:30pm tonight to nail what I am sure would have killed it. Sealed from the mint 1973 date stamp...1880 GSA cc morgan. Was in the mall, first mistake, spotty reception. Had bid and was winning with three seconds left with 801.99. Lost at 811. By the time the outbid flashed it was over. Bummed is too weak a word. Gonna bust out the Glenn fidditch 18

That's amazing. I have a growing Adam Pietz collection but that is sweet.
I picked up this Pietz die trial, among other Pietz pieces this year. Although this is called a die trial, I really have no idea how it was made.
That is gorgeous. Your passion for toners shows through with coins like that! I really appreciate your perspective on the toner market.
You keep posting stuff about EDM & MNSR and you are going get me kicked off of the forum.😬
Lol. That's definitely not my intent so please don't do anything that will prevent you from posting. Toners are about Market Acceptability so I think it's important to stay up to date on what's acceptable.
Did you get this from our forum member who loves and posts a lot of toned gold?
Good guess. I submitted it to cac and then crossed it and resubmitted it for the bean all with said member's help. Last gold I saw with such intense vivid color spent many years at the bottom of the ocean..
