you know, i really came to this forum to learn.
not to be made fun of or have subliminal messages on
    other threads.
This is upsetting that one has to go through this just to be
a part of a coin forum.
i thought i was the young one, i was wrong.
Ill be posting the result of this when it comes in.
Cheers guys, thanks to the ones that actually helped.

    You're welcome! ;)

[It was a joke on the other thread. Lighten up!]

No one made fun of you. I spent more time on this than anyone. It's only my conclusion that upsets you. You are free to ignore it. But concluding that the coin is likely fake is not "making fun" of anyone.

    see as you want too.
    Congrats man.
    You won.

On one thread you LOL at his comment and on another you feel abused? Something does not add up.

BTW, If those coins turn out to be decent fakes, I'm pretty sure you can sell the pair for $100 as many folks have reference sets of counterfeits. To can even donate them to the ANA for Summer Seminar.

I never felt abused in anyway, i just had no words.
i felt as if it was something childish they were holding on too.
i was excited about a coin, that was all. no need to go somewhere else to make fun of it.
    do it here.
One guy acting like that does not ruin it for me.
    I love this forum

I appreciate everyone’s words. I like learning and having the experience. And like he said, casinos or entertainment. The 300 I spent was just for educational purposes. My personal reasonings. I’m very excited to learn and grow as a coin collector. Thank you all for your help. I do appreciate it and ready to grow As a numismatist :)
    Thank you guys

I'm sure I missed something. How does the $300 fit in?

Total cost of purchase and slab fees. So, it's the total cost of the experiment

    What he said :)

Like i said before, i dont want to be part of that group of newbies that argue about something, and dont actually act on it, yea it might come back a bad result, but i am learning from this.
I took this as a lesson no one can get anywhere no matter how much you pay.

LOL. Try doing it with a coin you want to sell. You get it slabbed and wait a few weeks. Then you shop it around to find an auction house. Then you send it to the auction house for an auction a couple months away. Then you wait 45 days after the auction to get paid.

Thats where i see the Dealer aspect of this hobby. I myself, like nice displays.
I just slab them for personal preference. Aside the 10 Ounces I buy a week for my
2 kids, this will also be going to them. They can choose what they want to do with it.
I like the hobby. Im not looking to sell unless the price was good.

    I agree!

Thank you OP for having a thick skin and good attitude despite some of the tacky comments here.

Frankly the type of initial reception you received is what may turn some would-be new participants off about this otherwise excellent forum.

All the Thank you's should go to everyone on this forum for the help!

Although like you said, Some would leave with a sour taste, I just knew to
keep it positive even though it may have had the best of me for a bit.
    It is an excellent forum.

Truth is that some on this forum think that everybody should have the same knowledge as them. If that was the case then no need for forum. Its also a fact that people belittle other people to make themselves look better. It could be a bad thing as new people could become afraid of the insults if they post a dumb comment or ask a question. I didn't see any brutal abuse here but have seen it in other threads.

I think it’s the manner in which some new posters keep defending the impossible is what sparks some veteran forum members to be brutally blunt. Please stick around

Once you get a feel for the coins that will pass muster at PCGS, you might consider some of the Coin World slabs to self-slab the coins that simply won't grade. Part of your learning process will be to recognize when having coins graded is worth the money, and when it's not. Becoming efficient will allow you to broaden and deepen your collection, regardless of the level of collecting you choose.

This. I agree. Stick around - you've already made some good contributions whether you know it or not. :)

I agree that some posters have arrogance and I can see where that could get under peoples skin. With all the talent on this forum if 9 out of 10 say a coin is fake or damaged believe it. they most likely have made their own mistakes and are just trying to save some grief. If the op still feels the need to submit then by all means do so and let us know the results.

I dont mean any bad intent here. i just want to see what happens.
Im not disagreeing with anyone. I just wanted to send it in even if it means i lost

Last year at an auction in southwest Connecticut I took a flyer on a 1909sVDB and Many other nice Date Coins. The 1909 was in a 2*2 flip with a grade of AU58BN. I made it to the auction about 3 hours early and inspected every coin/lot in the auction.
Auction time comes around, I’m definitely the youngest person bidding and I bid on every single coin/lot that came across the block, took them to the max and either bought or became the underbidder.
People in the crowd were mocking me Saying the coins were fake, overgraded etc. some people even cheered.
Before the auction I had talked to the auctioneer who personally guranteed every coin or bullion item that night.
Well the 1909s VDB was one of the last items to go, the auctioneer almost fainted when he sold it to me for $300 + 15% BP.
I left that night and drove back to Massachusetts with a Mountain Of Coins, Proof sets, Foreign, Gold

The whole ride home I was thinking what an idiot I was, all of these older guys in the room with pockets full of cash and experience. How could they let me get this stuff for short money. 😎

But In reality, I had studied US Coins daily for 5 straight years and have studied many examples of 1909s VDB. Knowing the 4 positions of the S, Tilt and lineup position of the VDB reverse.

I Sent Many Of the coins to PCGS, ECONOMY! Was Torture waiting.
Finally I get the notification on my phone,”Grades are ready”
    1856 $1 gold MS63 Slanted 5
    1895s $1 AU50
    1909sVDB AU55
Plus about 10 other coins that came back in various grades/condition

Was very proud of myself. Walked into the lions den and came out unscathed.

Best of luck on the forum, hopefully we can be friends and watch out for each other around here.

    Shield and Arrow

    Thats awesome!
that sounds great! well be in touch!
Maybe we can learn from this and teach the

Very well done. Cleaned but authentic. Seems like the crowd here was certain the halves were fake. :'( Guess there is a lot of learning to do by the "experts" here. A little good humored rubbing-it-in seems in order. :)

yea, i wanted to rub it in.
Especially being that there were people on here being "100%" positive.
