BTW, If those coins turn out to be decent fakes, I'm pretty sure you can sell the pair for $100 as many folks have reference sets of counterfeits. To can even donate them to the ANA for Summer Seminar.

LOL. Try doing it with a coin you want to sell. You get it slabbed and wait a few weeks. Then you shop it around to find an auction house. Then you send it to the auction house for an auction a couple months away. Then you wait 45 days after the auction to get paid.

Its also a fact that people belittle other people to make themselves look better. It could be a bad thing as new people could become afraid of the insults if they post a dumb comment or ask a question. I didn't see any brutal abuse here but have seen it in other threads.

Once you get a feel for the coins that will pass muster at PCGS, you might consider some of the Coin World slabs to self-slab the coins that simply won't grade. Part of your learning process will be to recognize when having coins graded is worth the money, and when it's not. Becoming efficient will allow you to broaden and deepen your collection, regardless of the level of collecting you choose.

With all the talent on this forum if 9 out of 10 say a coin is fake or damaged believe it. they most likely have made their own mistakes and are just trying to save some grief. If the op still feels the need to submit then by all means do so and let us know the results.

Last year at an auction in southwest Connecticut I took a flyer on a 1909sVDB and Many other nice Date Coins. The 1909 was in a 2*2 flip with a grade of AU58BN. I made it to the auction about 3 hours early and inspected every coin/lot in the auction.
Auction time comes around, I’m definitely the youngest person bidding and I bid on every single coin/lot that came across the block, took them to the max and either bought or became the underbidder.
People in the crowd were mocking me Saying the coins were fake, overgraded etc. some people even cheered.
Before the auction I had talked to the auctioneer who personally guranteed every coin or bullion item that night.
Well the 1909s VDB was one of the last items to go, the auctioneer almost fainted when he sold it to me for $300 + 15% BP.
I left that night and drove back to Massachusetts with a Mountain Of Coins, Proof sets, Foreign, Gold
The whole ride home I was thinking what an idiot I was, all of these older guys in the room with pockets full of cash and experience. How could they let me get this stuff for short money. 😎
But In reality, I had studied US Coins daily for 5 straight years and have studied many examples of 1909s VDB. Knowing the 4 positions of the S, Tilt and lineup position of the VDB reverse.
I Sent Many Of the coins to PCGS, ECONOMY! Was Torture waiting.
Finally I get the notification on my phone,”Grades are ready”
1856 $1 gold MS63 Slanted 5
1895s $1 AU50
1909sVDB AU55
Plus about 10 other coins that came back in various grades/condition
Was very proud of myself. Walked into the lions den and came out unscathed.
