Landed this rare BBCE 1979 OPC Hockey Box WITH (1) Pack having a Gretzky Rookie showing on the back!!
The skin is staying on this Whale.

Forgive my ignorance since I don’t collect unopened stuff; how do you know there’s a Gretzky pack if the box is sealed/wrapped?

@1951WheatiesPremium - hello, when Steve Hart authenticated the box he reviewed the packs for authenticity and at that time noticed the Gretzky showing. He then wrapped the box with the BBCE Logo shrink film and labeled as such.
Steve verifies it's showing before wrapping.

Wow!! Incredible pickup. Is that a 79 OPC Vending box to go along with it?
I love that Hartford being included in the set, as advertised on the box, was considered a selling point.

@BriYo79 - Hi Brian. The vending is a 79 Topps Hockey I bought a few years back. The loose packs are 79 Topps Hockey from a CU break.

If you didn't mind, can you give is a little backstory on its pedigree or how you acquired it? Was it already wrapped? Private sale or auction? I love hearing this stuff.
That is a great box in its own right but it looks like it is in glorious shape, like it was just pulled out of a sealed case. I know the Gretzky pack is the boom but I'm really impressed with the condition of the box. Just a great unopened piece.
Credit to you, UFFDAH, for not getting discouraged and getting right back on the horse. The board is better with you involved in it and the hobby.

Awesome box, Chris! And obviously not cherrypicked with the Gretzky pack still in there. Based on that, I'd bet the box is essentially the equivalent of FASC. I would definitely leave it intact and not mess with it. Congrats!!
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Some additional info from Steve on the box. "Box came to me in a larger collection, so no real provenance on it. Packs are all NM-MT to MINT and look fresh from OPC. I assume the Gretzky pack is at least NM-MT, but cant remember"
