After five years of cherry-picking on ebay...

I have finally completed the self-titled "Tour de Cherry-Picked Proof Dollars", which I defined to be cherry-picking the three attainable proof dollar series. A few facts about this set:
- All of these coins were purchased raw off of eBay and unattributed as "proof"
- The 1874 in PR53 CAC was the first coin in the set that I purchased
- The most expensive coin in this set was the Seated Dollar, which I purchased for just north of $1k

Wow! It’s amazing that you got all those as just raw coins and no one realized they were proofs! That’s a great investment I’m sure

There are a lot of goodies on eBay you just need the willpower to get through the muck to find them

Pretty amazing accomplishment. I know first-hand how much effort it takes to cherrypick eBay and how many frogs you have to kiss before you find a prince. Truly a testament to your knowledge and perseverance. Congrats!

That’s exceptional. I would love to the total $$$ in the set with grading fees.

Stealer, impressive. But ...
I personally would not post this type of thread as now you will have more competition looking for what your looking for
And I thought that I could cherrypick!
No longer.
Congrats

Outstanding accomplishment and it goes to show the depth of knowledge he has. I will +1 on thinking I could cherry pick 🤣 sheesh
Outstanding, patient work. Nicely done.
nice job and pick ups, congrats
Please educate me. How can a coin that grades 53 be a proof coin? Furthermore, how can someone determine that a coin with that much wear actually IS a proof?
Impressive! Great scores.
Great Job. I am sure uncountable hours of time was spent viewing thousands of auctions to make this happen. This post gets the mind to thinking about what is floating around out there if you look.
Are you 8 for 8 (100%) on choosing correctly? If not, how many did you buy thinking you had a proof only to find that it was not?
Proof is a method of striking. MS is for circulation, Proof is for presentation. There are differences in die polishing and strike pressure which in turn creates mirrored coin finish with better detail and sharper rims.
Having a coin proof coin that circulated a bit will take it from PR60s into the PR50s, it is still a Proof struck coin. For circulation struck coins with a little circulation you go from MS60s to AU50s. Same principal while keeping the two strike types separate.... a Proof coin with circulation would be PR53 not AU53.
You suck!
As to the bumps along the way alluded to earlier, where there a meaningful number of buy/returns, BB or pieces graded as business strike along the way?

Wow that is truly impressive! I have to wonder how the seller didn’t notice that the 1874 pr62 cam was a proof.
