Hopefully not a bad omen for Tiger. ABC News reports his restaurant is being charged with a wrongful death lawsuit. A 24 year old man who drank at Tigers business in Florida left with 3x the legal limit, crashed his car and died. Tiger gave a brief statement today at Bethpage.

That is an interesting point as to how it may affect his play.

It's interesting with events such as this with superstar athletes. I've seen some over the years whereby their parent dies, or they are served divorce papers, or whatever sort of traumatic event occurs, and they actually have a great game afterwards.

Whatever is in their superstar psyche, rising to the challenge or whatever it is called, gets them to perform even better under these circumstances.

How Woods will react to this as far affecting his play, of course I have no idea. Woods himself may not even know right now. Certainly financially it won't affect him that much. I'd be sure that he has business insurance for situations such as this as most if not all restaurant owners do that serve alcohol.

The expected civil lawsuits and possible criminal action will likely affect him the most in the long run to whatever degree.

    We shall see.

the field (the total number of players) for the PGA Championship is 156. starting tomorrow morning, there is one 18-hole round played each day from Thurs-Sun. 72 holes total.

but there is a slight catch. there is a cut after the second round on Friday. only the top 70 players plus ties will move on to play the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday. naturally, if someone's pick is cut after Friday then they're out of the contest. i expect that to be the fate of a few.

i'll update the leaderboard after each round so everyone will know exactly where they stand.

The lawsuit will not affect Tiger one iota, he's already moved on to trash talking John Daly: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/2019/05/14/john-daly-responds-tiger-woods-criticism-golf-cart-pga-championship/3672146002/

I struggle with this one. I have to think some of his health problems are self inflicted and even the public has to walk the Black course at Bethpage (I know; I’ve played it). That said, he went about it the right way and it is an Open tournament. Plus he’s a fan favorite and a good opening round certainly could add a little something. And I happen to like John Daly so I’m happy for him. I just wonder if it’s fair; that course, in particular, is BRUTAL to walk.

"Can he be caught?" asks the knowledgeable about golf, contest organizer.

This ignorant about golf, contest participant says, "Yes he can."

There's a lot of double bogey opportunities available, no one is out of the hunt yet.

  • CoinstartledCoinstartled Posts: 10,135 ✭✭✭✭✭

Woody was 25,000 to 1 to win the four majors this year (pre Masters). $40 could have made you a cool milion.

Bookies are probably not sweating after today.

Tiger needs to pick one up or net one falling back from group at +3 to make it to the weekend.

  • LarkinCollectorLarkinCollector Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looks like 3 picks (Rahm, Sergio, Reed) + Daly (since he got some mentions) aren't making the weekend, with one more on the wrong side of the line and not many holes left to play (Tiger).

Since I was going chalk, it was going to be Bryson or Fleetwood. Oops!

Fleetwood had a stellar front 9 today, but that back 9 has bit a lot of possible contenders. Barring a complete meltdown from Koepka, it may be a pretty uneventful weekend regardless.

I may have to see what I can put together as a 2nd place prize to keep this somewhat interesting for those still left in.

Koepka should contribute a portion of his winnings from this tourney to a second place prize here. After all, he is the one responsible for this mess.

Or even better, he can contribute a portion for all of us to split. @galaxy27 why don't you just hit him up on Twitter or Instagram and tell the whole backstory with a link to this thread. Make it go viral!! :D 🤣

Congrats to vettfanatic on winning the contest and the $100 prize.

If ya want to, let us know how you used the money. A dinner at a fine restaurant? Maybe a decent pair of sports tickets? A nice PCGS coin or PSA card? Perhaps just a bank deposit and let it draw interest over the years and grow.

Ah it must be enjoyable to win a lot of money like that and enjoy the fruits of victory. The rest of us will just have to be content to dream as to what could have been. 🤔

Who doesn’t love a good reverse jinx attempt from the guy in 2nd place?

    Seems really, really genuine.

The pack or at least someone behind Koepka is going to have to start making up strokes right now on this third round, back nine.

This course has been playing too tough to reasonably be able to gain seven strokes on the final day. If Koepka has a seven stroke lead starting the final round tomorrow, he may just play all irons, be content with par golf, and just coast home.

  • MjwagsMjwags Posts: 108 ✭✭✭

Koepka is trending in the wrong direction after shooting an even par for the day. I certainly don't expect anyone to catch him but the door was open if someone had a big round today.

Come on DJ, get off your arze and start playing some golf out there. You don't want this scoundrel Koepka beating you do ya?

Get mad at that golf ball. Hit that damn thing a country mile. I wanna see nothing but birdies and eagles today. You can do it!

Someone tell Koepka there's a man eating lion loose on the fairway.
