New Forum Rule - Trolls, Alts, and Bans

BrettPCGSBrettPCGS Posts: 159 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hey all,

We did a bit of sleuthing and we’ve found the troll.

Today the accounts:

@Wabbit2313
@PedroP
@ZippyZip

Have all been permanently banned as they are all the same user.

If you take a look at the comment history you’ll see an embarrassing pattern of this user using multiple accounts to instigate issues on the forums.

Having to police stuff like this is frankly embarrassing for the community as a whole.  It’s also a massive waste of time.  All of the moderators of this forum have essential roles that are instrumental to positive improvements at PCGS, but instead, we waste time on stuff like this.

———————

New forum rule:

No alt, alternative or spare accounts.  One account per member, no exceptions.

If we see you actively using more than one account we will ban the secondary account.   I’ve noticed that many of you use alts to strategically bump your own posts.  That stops now as well.

This rule will be posted in our stickied forum rule post shortly.

    Multiple personalities and not just mere multiple names. Interesting.

    Love to see them get called out too.

    Wow is all I can muster here.

    Pretty pathetic if someone has to have 3 alts - must have real issues besides the fact he needed to talk to himself and keep THREE identities yikes!

    Awesome work @BrettPCGS @HeatherBoyd on ferreting out the alts!

    There should/is a way to prevent this from happening in the first place but that would entail a instituting a “new user application” process.

    I wish we had the option of posting our city. One member on another forum lives 5 mi away from me and we were able to meet. It helps to know a poster's age too.

    Thank you! Collectors need a positive place to hang out and discuss their hobby. Alts and trolls dont positively impact a discussion. Don’t people have better things to do with their time?

    Fantastic! Thanks for caring enough to keep this place active and healthy.

    When I was the administrator of an unrelated hobby Internet forum we were able to identify and block members using the same IP address for multiple accounts. Perhaps there's a way to do this automatically to avoid all the drama and time waste. The only issue I could foresee is when members of the same family or same organization (coin shop) log in from the same IP address.

    It takes about 50 legit members to overcome the effects of 1 troll.

    I was wondering about the Spanish as it was too "book" as in written in English and then using an on line web translator, translated word to word into Spanish, copy and pasted.

    It did not "flow".
