I'm still learning and it's still fun, so I'm still here. Overall no change, but the unnecessary drama takes a toll.

Yes... been here for over twenty years... seen changes, ups and downs, trolls and fools, friends and experts... So I plan on staying.. who knows what will happen next....Bring it on.... :D Cheers, RickO

It's changed changed over the years and I still enjoy it.
Used to be a little more rough and tumble. Its softer now.
I'm amazed that so many of the coin related posts go nowhere while the Facebook type get lots of mileage.
Like any other group, some people you like and others rub you the wrong way.
Bottom line...glad I'm still here along with you other nerds. ;)

It’s not like it used to be. Then again, what is?

Yogi's outlook was "the future isn't what it used to be". Or was it Paul Valéry's?

Anyway, I sometimes feel the ratio of old-timers to newbs is shrinking. Sad, maybe...maybe not. Another perspective is that newcomers are growing. Good for the hobby.

    This place is just fine.

Since I am not buying U.S. coins any more, my interest here has gone down. I am posting elsewhere in venues were my historical interests are more greatly appreciated.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Still here lurking
Still remember my first silver proof set in capital holder bought at a big coin shop in Vannuys CA. Second proof set was 1955 flat pack missing the US Mint logo. Then an 1883-P morgan in MS65, a few more coins and an 1880-S Morgan in virtually perfect condition in 2x2 flip (the coin is equivalent to an MS 69 plus today) but then I traded it for a morgan toner subtract $100 at a coin show and sold for a 50% loss later.
I was upset with losing $$$ on coins and left the field. Years later, I came back with beautiful 1906-D $20 in MS63 and many common dates Saints in MS 64 (PCGS graded), a couple $10 Indian in MS 64, and then sold all because what the point for having coins but I can rarely view them (because they were kept in bank safe box). Now I still have a few modern Buffalo golds, 2009 high relief, Jackie spouse and modern $5 unc gold in the vault. Other 1953, 1955, 2018 proof sets and few modern silver sets are kept at work for my enjoyment. My World War 2 books and DVDs collection is growing. Wish I still have the deep orange color with toning proof Lincoln to remind myself of the time the world was at war even though I wasn’t even born yet 😀
I guess the love of history led me to coin collecting and has enriched my life ever since.
Thanks the person(s) who created this forum and all our fellow participants. 🍻

I’m fairly new here but I love this forum so far. Everyone seems pretty nice although there’s always bad apples. For me I’d say all questions should be welcome regardless of what’s being asked as we should remember we were all new at some point. People that come to the forum to ask a newbie question should be treated with respect and not blasted for not knowing. They’re coming here for knowledge not to be ridiculed. We need to look at it as doing our part in growing our hobby.

It's as much a gathering place as it is the Collector's Universe. So my final answer is : Yes.

Everything seems focused more on the business side than the hobby/history/learning side, which has taken away for me. A lot though is due to the overall declining state of our hobby (grade inflation, quirkiness, etc.). I think @Justacommeman had a good idea about avoiding threads about certain topics for a few months at a time. I will probably try the same with eBay, grade inflation, state of the coin market, and CAC threads, but then again, what will be left to read? I miss the good old days back when the forums were educational (back when I only lurked and before I joined). :/

  • It took me several years to grow a pair & join & chime in a little bit so y’all don’t know me but I know you guys... Almost every one of you has a very special place in my heart. This place is a treasure trove of information & if I’m feeling nothing looks fresh or I’m board with the current topics then I just type a key word or 2, hit ENTER & “whahla.” One of my favorite topics to go back to is the Capped Bust Half Dollar analysis by year.
That is a comprehensive study on die marriages with plenty of pictures to coincide. I believe in any given day I can take away something good in regards to knowledge. Granted, I have a limited history here compared to most, it continues to evolve and stay strong & healthy...

    Glad you are here.
Where is the capped bust thread you mentioned? I would like to view that one.
