    Hiya guys

    Just a recap - I made a mistake and I do have SP 414 and 433.

So, unless my dyslexic eyes miss another SP - I need 426, 62 and 90.

    Ya gotta love Heritage!

Great to see this post still going strong. I picked up 3 of these 40 dollar mega boxes. They are much better than blasters or other retail IMO. SP's seems to be jumping out of the boxes. The cloths are really nice and with the limited print run the chrome packs can have good yield. Checklist isn't that great, but still.

Hobby boxes are falling and the new products from topps are coming this week. If you can't wait a little longer you might be able to reload for less.

I haven't done a set in a long time. I still have most of my autograph collection in my PC. I still try to pick up a few rarer pieces if I can. Next year is going to be nuts.

  • CommemKingCommemKing Posts: 2,202 ✭✭✭✭✭

Got a question. I got a Joey Votto in a heritage pack today. The card looks kinda like a chrome, but its not "plastic looking" like most chromes. It looks like its basic card stock that is shiny like a refractor. It also is not numbered like other refractors out of 999. It has the number "465" without the "THC-465" as it should have as a chrome card. What is going on here? Do I have something special? Im very confused. Please help me out.

What are the last 3 digits of the 'CODE#CMP' string at the bottom of the back?

I didn't pull any but it could be a "Silver Metal?"

Look at the code in the bottom right - does it end in #120?

Yes, the code ends in 120. What does that mean?

  • WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭

Yup, sounds like a silver metal...which isn't metal at all. #ThanksTopps

So my understanding is the silver metal are limited to 100 copies I believe. I think I saw that on cardboard connection.

  • heritageheritage Posts: 2,662 ✭✭✭

I can see that 100 copies sounds right.

    More Notes from Underground

I didn't remember that Janis Joplin died the same year as Hendrix.

    She was only 27.

    Iconic at Woodstock '69

Cool factoid - her custom painted '64 Porsche sold in 2015 for almost 2 million bucks.

You'll see Jim in next year's Heritage, Dave.

He died July 3, 1971 at the age of 27.

And yes, isn't that a bit spooky?

All 3 died at the age of 27.

There's others like Brian Jones - one of the originals in the Rolling Stones. And also, most notably, Kurt Cobain. And last, Amy Winehouse.

    Hi everyone,

This will be my first post on this website. To start off, I have been reading this forum for the past two weeks and have thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and discussions about topps heritage. In my opinion, topps heritage is truly my favorite baseball card to collect.

A little bit about myself, I started collecting baseball cards when I was 6 years old and collected random baseball cards for a while until I hit middle school. I never really maintained interest in collecting baseball cards, but every once in a while, my dad would splurge and buy a couple of boxes of topps heritage. Now, being a college student, I realized how much I missed collecting baseball cards. I bought a couple of hobby boxes of topps heritage 2019 and I love it.

My goal with baseball card collecting is to focus on building sets. I don't really care for much of the inserts, other than the occasional autograph card. Other than that, inserts seem pointless to me. I am almost done with this years set and only need like 20-30 short prints left to complete the set. Once I go through my short prints and see what I need, I will post the list sometime this week. I am excited to be able to complete my first set.

Lastly, if anyone has any topps heritage 2013 short prints, I would be more than happy to trade because I bought a bunch of topps heritage 2013 cards in the past and I didn't realize I had so many to build a decent set. I am looking forward to this forum and many more to come!

    Of interest Dave.

Both Farley and Belushi were 33 when they died. Two great SNL'ers.

    A few newbie questions:

Is there a different thickness feel to packs that have special cards within?

Is there a way to feel for special cards or additions to the pack?

How many cards in the full set?

What do all the pack names mean, like retail (store obviously) hobby, etc.?

I was tempted by a display of these at a local store today.

In the 90s I remember some process to feel for holograms and stuff in packs.
I also figured out around age 11, that if you used a adjustable setting stud finder, you could precisely ID packs with holograms inside. At least the non foil type wrappers.

  • Picked up a black border to go with my misprint white border. The first two cards in each pack of one of my hobby boxes had white borders. Have been trying to think what to do with them for awhile and the idea hit me to pair one of them with a black

Aspie, Topps tries to hide the thick hits. I hit a 1 of 99 relic that was an 1/8 thick and that pack came with just 3 other base cards...

What do all the pack names mean, like retail (store obviously) hobby, etc.?

Basically Topps produced "Retail" packs/boxes and "Hobby" packs/boxes.

To add, they produced retail packs/boxes for Walmart and Target which have "exclusive" subsets like the candy lids (Target) and cloth stickers (Walmart). And last Topps made 1970 Player Story Booklets in retail (I know you can order blasters direct from Topps)

On the Hobby side - there's cards that I put a link to - the "variations" which are a "Hobby Only" way to get.

Now there's some retail only/hobby only other specific cards - best to read what's on the box.

Now, and last, when you go to Target e.g., you can buy individual packs, some have sealed retail boxes and also retail "Blasters" (8 packs per box) and Mega Boxes (have not seen - I think there's 15 packs plus a retail only pack of special chromes? Can't remember since I've not picked any up this year). Also, there's bulk packs hanging - don't buy - think they're called "Hanger packs?" (I don't recommend - at 9.99 - many have said it was a bad buy).

Now if this doesn't confuse you? Then you're a genius, cause it confuses the hell out of me!

I saw the box and thought “what’s in the box?”
Yeah I totally bought the wrong one. Series 1 non heritage. Just got home and read the above. Bulk box with not much that jumps out. No doubles. Not familiar with any current players. Only 3 Phillies in the box :(

I think it would be a good idea to hit a local shop and ask questions - if the guy's honest? You'll probably "feel" it in no time.

Also, a local show with lots of vendors. Get a "feel" for what they have and what they want.

    Recommendation? No impulse buying.

You will find some that are selling stuff at a fair price if you're selective.

I agree with what @Stone193 says about the hanger boxes. Those are the worst. The best was one of the $40 mega boxes I got from Walmart. If you're looking for chromes that seems to be the best way.

Just bought 2 of those today (and a regular blaster). What kind of an addict spends $100 + tax when he's already finished 2 sets? B)

    Wooo thanks for the Recommendation!!
I grabbed a small blaster $21.34 and it must be a “hot box” ? Or are the thc metal cards common ? I have 3 sealed packs left and I found (see pics) and about 7 rookie group cards. Is this good?
I was really hoping for a relic. That is such a neat idea, I definitely want a relic. I was excited to see a Phillies metal card and I got 3 Phils cards total and only about 9 doubles of base cards. This is much more fun than I recall from the 1990s.
I need some more of those plastic bags? For the cards.

Why is the Marte card a different color?

Below is from pack #6 if anyone needs this scratch off card I will trade it and any doubles

"Why is the Marte card a different color?"

If that was a Walmart blaster, the Marte may be the cloth sticker only found in Walmart packs.
