That was NOT a first down!

The Pat's defense have the Vikes totally confused!

D played well today, would still love home field throughout the playoffs.

They own the h2h tiebreakers for KC & Houston so as long as they keep winning that 2nd seed should be theirs. They also have a fairly easy last 4 games with @Miami,@Pittsburgh,Bills & Jets.
Hopefully the Ravens,Chargers or Seahawks knock off the Chiefs at least one game.

Solid win today and the defense was great in that 2nd half. I wonder what was up with Vikings WR Adam Theilen talking crap to Belichick when BB threw that challenge flag on the Vikings 1st down. It was definitely a punk move.

I think that is because Theilen is a punk.

This was a great win for NE today. My question is why was Brady still out there with 3-4 left with the game in hand???

can we stop with the word punk? is it 1978 in here?

It was only a two possession game at that point and even though we knew it was probably a Pats win Belichick doesn't look at it that way. He's been asked that question so many times and his answer is always the same. He'd say its possible for teams to score, then recover an onside kick then score again. Had it been a 24pt lead and not 14,he likely would have been out.

Every situation is different, but to me at this point the Vikes were totally out of it. The Pat's defense had them totally confused. I don't think I have ever seen a defense move around like that with NOBODY on the line. Leave it to BB.

Yeah they played great, even made Theilen pretty much a nonfactor for most of the game. They still gave up a few big runs to Cook though.

Great W against a pretty tough Vikes team. They love using Develin, the Pats night be the only team that utilizes the Fullback and makes him a go to guy

Historically the Pats have had problems in Miami too. They probably will win the division, but Kansas City has a lead and Houston is coming on like gangbusters. The Pats might win a game in the playoffs, but they won’t go to the Super Bowl.

Agree, Dolphins are better with Tannehill back. I think it will be difficult to get to SB without home field all the way.

Pittsburgh blew a big lead and lost to San Diego last night. They didn't look good. For the final game winning field goal, they jumped offside three plays in a row. I have never seen that before. If they had not jumped the first time, they would have sent the game into overtime.

Will they be out for blood against the Pats, or will this be a mediocre year for them?

Adam Thielen says he was PO'd because Patrick Chung went to the ground right after that first down call and appeared to be stalling for time with a fake injury. So Thielen in all his wisdom decided to go scream at Belichick instead of Chung.

Brady finally got his 1,000th rushing yard of his career and it only took 263 games to get there.

Dan Marino didn’t even get 100 yards in his career. I had to look it up because I thought it was crazy it took Brady that long but I guess it’s pretty good compared to Marino lol

If sacks counted as minus yards rushing.......most QB's would end up in the minus yards. :):oB)

To put your comparison in perspective,I saw a stat that 160 of Brady's 1k rushing yards were just from kneel downs.

    So?

Sometimes it's much wiser to eat the ball than throw an interception or start running and get injured. They used to make a big deal out Randel Cunningham when he was at Philadelphia and how great a runner he was. Then he got his leg broken running around and was never the same.

Is it better to have a star quarterback in the game or on the shelf with an injury? Running backs have the shortest careers in football, and the smart quarterbacks want to spend as little time as possible trying emulate them. Quarterbacks get beat-up enough in the pocket without adding to the shots they take with unwise running.

That just shows you how great Brady is to have run for over a thousand yards in his career and only had one significant injury in 19 years.

Unless I am mistaken sacks count as yards lost rushing as do kneel downs. If this is the case his 1,000 yards rushing is even more impressive.

Not all kneeldowns are a step back, many go forward enough to get counted as 1 rushing yard.
Brady actually mentioned after that at the end of the game he didn't want to take a step back on that last kneeldown to end the game so his career rushing yards would stay at 1000.

Agreed, it has zero impact on anything so why not. Though I will say that it partly proves my theory correct that deep down Brady cares more about personal stats than he would ever admit.

Most players, if they had stats like Brady does, care about their stats. They would not have them if they didn't.

I think any QB at this point of their career would be too...Manning,Brees,Marino,Favre,Elway. Winning a/another ring is probably first on their list but I think individual achievements like the many different career passing records are on all of their minds including Tom even if they'll never admit it publicly.

In all seriousness, Tom Brady is as tough as a football player comes. He has played through a lot of small injuries.

And as for him being in at the end of the game, I seem to remember him staying in during many "blowouts" even. It's just his style.

People that mock Brady because he does those things just wish he was on their team so just ignore them!

And that has always been an issue I have with Belichek, I couldn’t care less if Brady wants to stay in late in the 4th during a blowout. It’s Belicheks job to do what’s right for the better of the team and if necessary protect players from themselves.

Yes, look at just what happened to the Green Bay coach. Of course, losing will always hasten a coarch’s exit.

Brady is the heart and soul of that team and he will get whatever he wants. Bilicheck is smart enough to know that. The Green Bay coach is a very good example of what happens when a great quarterback is not happy.

During the times when Brady has been unable to play (injured or suspended), the Patriots have still posted strong winning percentages.

Perhaps Belichick just figures he can win Super Bowls without the need of a sixth round draft pick, and if Brady gets hurt, then so what, he gets hurt.

  • BillJonesBillJones Posts: 33,997 ✭✭✭✭✭

When Brady was suspended for the “Inflate-gate foolishness,” one commentator made the joke that the Patriots could win if Belichick started a mop handle and put a helmet on it at quarterback.

That was close to true. When the back-up was injured (Garrafolo) Belichick had to use the third stringer. They won that game, but the third stringer injured his hand in that game and could not grip the ball well enough to throw it in the fourth game of Brady’s suspension. They did lose the game where the third stringer could not throw the ball which did away with “the mop theory.”

Let’s not act like they were playing really strong teams though. Big Bill gets crazy amounts of credit when they win and rarely gets heat when they lose, which he has caused a few times.
