Nice strawman argument. Its just one game, that is all.

Don't try to change the subject Eric. Every Patriots fan out there before this game was on the Patriots bandwagon for this season's Super Bowl. I'm not saying any Patriots fans have jumped off yet, but after this 34-10 rout, certainly they're not chirpin' nearly as loud.

I didn't see the game, so maybe it wasn't as bad for the Patriots as the score indicates. However a 24 point loss is pretty ugly no matter how anyone spins it.

Ah no I never thought they would be winning a superbowl. I've been consistently whining about how bad they are. If anything they are overachieving to this point.

Nice spin on a 24 point rout.

That's a bad way to lose a game and have to think about it going into the bye week.

We shall see how the Patriots and a 41 year old Tom Brady respond to it in their next game.

Listen to Steve talking all sorts of smack, let me remind you that they don’t crown AFC champions after one game and they certainly don’t eliminate anyone until the math lines up. We got beaten up, probably still pumped over the Green Bay game and looking forward to the bye week or they just flat out got beat by a team that played better today, either way nobody is spinning anything. We got beat and hopefully everyone will heal up after the bye week. And I’ll add this, I like the Pats chances of a repeat Super Bow appearance much more than the Eagles.

You must have missed my opinion on today's game Tennessee with the complete beatdown on NE today.
Yes it is only one loss in week 10,that isn't spin that is reality. I've no worries that they won't come back after the bye and start another winning streak and until proven otherwise, yes they are a SB contender when they've played in 3 of the last 4 SBs.

NE's fate is in their own hands unlike Philly's. its pretty sad when you're praying for the Bucs to beat the Skins in week 10 just so your Eagles have any chance of a division title. Perkdog's preseason prediction of Philly not making the playoffs looks better with each passing week.

However if the Eagles look good beating up the Cowboys tonight, then that would change things.

Beating a horrible Cowboys team in week 10 won't change a thing. Philly would still be chasing the Redskins for the division and still be on the outside of the NFC playoff picture looking in.
This a must win game for the Eagles for them being able to keep their very slim playoff hopes alive. They absolutely need to win tonight.

    <<< unlike Philly's >>>

That is incorrect because the Eagles still play the Redskins two times this season. If the Eagles ice the Cowboys season tonight, then stay within 2 games of the Redskins in the other games and beat them twice, the Eagles make the playoffs.

I have more faith in Washington winning both of those games than this current Eagles team doing it. Philly just isn't that good this year and likely to land 7-9/8-8 when its all said and done.

The Redskins aren’t that good. They didn’t look great against a totally inept Tampa team that could not score touchdowns or field goals when they were in red zone 5 or 6 times. Tampa has the worst place kicker in pro football. He can’t score from the red zone. The Redskins defensive line is really beat up.

If the Eagles play to their potential, they will win the division. If they handle Dallas in Dallas, that will show that they really want. If they don’t, the Redskins are in. None of the NFC East teams will last long in the playoffs, however.

The Redskins have a below zero chance of winning both those games.

But the Redskins do have some sort of intangible going for them this season that's beginning to worry me. They got outplayed today and still won the game.

Skins were lucky today. You can't win if you turn the ball over deep in opposing territory and miss chip shot FGs and TB did both today.

Philly hasn't played the Redskins with Alex Smith at QB. I wouldn't trust Smith to win a huge playoff game but when it comes to regular season wins in recent years he's up there with the best. His numbers won't be as flashy as Cousins were but he's a more than serviceable QB during the regular season.

This Philly team is not good at all. They haven't managed to win back to back games yet this season and where they were so good last season on the road, this year they're just 2-2 so far. They don't even know how they'll do in division play when they still have 5 games to go.
Nothing about this team standouts so far and they've been exceedingly average overall so far. They really need to win tonight just to keep their Wild card hopes alive.

It was not only as bad as the score indicates but much worse.

Maybe Dallas getting beat by Tenn. 28-14 last week wasn't that bad! Especially considering how we gave them points on turn overs!

Although this helps the Chiefs in their quest for home field advantage in the playoffs,
I somehow think the Pats will be back with a vengeance.
Don't know who they play next, but I would be willing to bet they play much, much better.

    In 2 weeks they're @Jets then Vikings,@Dolphins,@Steelers,Bills, Jets.

Belichick will tear them a new one over the next 2 weeks then they'll be fine. This loss definitely sucks from a seeding aspect.

Edelman injury isn't as bad as expected, should be ready after the bye.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭

Not much to say, we beat the Jets. 🤷‍♂️ Hard to believe Gronk with only his 2nd TD catch this season, not a chance they resign him next year in my opinion.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

No, he is toast! Football is a rough sport and players usually don't last long, I remember meeting a Patriots fullback from the sixties after he retired and he was a zombie compared to when he was playing. Life is too short, as it is, to put yourself through all that pain for a few years of football.

I wouldn’t say he is “Toast” but unless he takes a HUGE paycut or a low minimum with incentives the Pats will not sign him, the numbers and dependability are just not there. And forget about the Pats “Taking care” of Gronk for his services,” it’s dont let the door hit you on your way out of the building”. They need to resign Trent Brown and Flowers which will be big money.

The Patriots bet the Jets yesterday (Ya! I love to to see the New York City teams lose!) and Miami lost which means the Pats are up on top in the division by three games with five to pay. it will be good to at least have someone to root for in January.

As for going to the big dance, that will tough. One thing about Andy Reed terms is that they tend to fade in the late season. His young quaterback is also going to learn to take care of the ball. His turnovers cost them big time against LA.

My money would be on Gronk still playing in NE in 2019 over Brown & Flowers. I'll even go out on a limb and say both of those players will have a higher 2019 salary than Gronk. Left Tackles & Pass rushers get paid in free agency even when they're not elite players at their positions.
Gronk already told the team how it is by saying he's only playing for Brady,he'll take the paycut.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

If the Pat's lt Gronk go........they are plum STUPID! You can't go by number of TD's on a TE. The guy is a beast and I would take him in a heartbeat.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,035 ✭✭✭✭✭
    edited November 26, 2018 9:08AM

Gronk's stats have definitely suffered this season but even when he's not out running routes,he's still arguably one of if not the best blocking TE in football. Yesterday Sony Michel ran in a TD behind a Gronk block from the 2 that was initially called a TD but was overturned saying his knee was down a yard short of the end zone before he stretched the ball over the plane. So they ran the exact same play behind Gronk again and got the TD the very next play.

If Gronk wants to keep playing in NE with Brady throwing to him past this season,he needs to give up on getting paid like a top 3-5 Tight End because his games played number will usually prevent that from happening. Most of the elite Pats players during the Belichick era very rarely get one huge contract from this team let alone more than one. Just off the top of my head were Brady,Mccourty,Wilfork & Mankins and those last two had some form of holdout to get finally get their money. Richard Seymour held out as well to get a pay raise but it wasn't the huge deal he was looking for.
Gronk told the team he'll only play football with Brady throwing to him which prevented him from getting traded but that statement is going to cost him financially if he wants to keep having Brady throwing to him over the next few years.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think Brown and Flowers should be priority, Gronk saying he will only play for Brady is fine but if the Pats are telling him to take a pay cut andother teams are offering bigger money then he is a fool. It’s a business and the Pats certainly don’t lose sleep over past their prime heroes leaving town.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,035 ✭✭✭✭✭

We just saw 30yr old Nate Solder, who most honest Pats fans would rank somewhere in the 8-12 range on the best left tackles in football list, become the highest paid LT in NFL history at 15M a year. Trent Brown is 5 years younger and is playing just as good if not better than Solder played in 2017. He's also been playing for 7th round pick money to this point in the NFL.
Re-signing Brown & Flowers should have been a priority long before they both hit free agency. Brown owes nothing to NE and is gonna go after the money. The best case scenario for Flowers staying in NE is if he hits the market and goes the Donta Hightower route but he's a very solid pass rusher not a middle linebacker. He'll almost certainly get paid more than the 4yr/35M/19M guaranteed that NE gave Hightower,it will probably be closer to Chandler Jones money than Hightower's.

With Gronk he doesn't want to play elsewhere and he's under contract for 2019. Unless he puts up crazy stats over the final month & playoffs,he'll have no leverage going into the offseason like he did last season after his 9rec/116yds/2tds in the SB.
His best bet to stay in NE at this point is going the Danny Amendola route were he takes the paycut and have the teammanage his playing time during the season so he's hopefully close to 100% come playoff time.

That's great news. Hopefully they keep running the ball like they did yesterday with 200+ rushing yards.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sony Michel really looks good, White didn’t get a ton of touches which was a good thing. With Burkhead back I like our trio of backs going forward, hopefully they all stay healthy
