ANA Show Report
I decided to attend the World’s Fair of Money in Philadelphia for 3 main reasons. The first was that it’s in Philadelphia near where my buddy from high school currently lives. He said that he’d be happy to accompany me on the trip. Usually, I go to the shows on my own since my wife isn’t really interested in coins. It helps that he’s retired from the U.S. Department of Defense which entitles him to a military discount. We got a nice room in the Courtyard Marriott close to the convention center.
The second reason was that THE 1913 Liberty Head Nickel was going to be auctioned off and viewable. It’s numismatic history in the making and I wanted to hold the coin and admire it up close. I’ll never own a coin that valuable but I can get a thrill just seeing it and attending the auction.
The third reason was to acquire a nice Indian Head Cent. I wanted it to have a pleasing appearance and to be able to view it in hand before my purchase. Most of my collection consists of gold coins from the Carson City mint or a few special dates that I purchased from D.W.N.
So here’s my first attempt at a show report. Hopefully it will give you a flavor of Philadelphia and the ANA show.

My new coin. I love its appearance.
Tonight is the Rarities auction for the 1913 Nickel. It’s exciting to be here for the show. I hope that this gives you a feel for this years ANA convention. It’s great fun and a good place to learn.

Nice report, nice pics, nice newp!
Wish I could have been there.
What an excellent report. Thanks.
I always say nothing beats new places with old friends.
Excellent report. Sounds like a great time. Would have loved to been there to hold my favorite coin (the before mentioned 1913)
MORE! MORE!!
I attended the WFOM in Denver. Jaw dropping experience. Did not bring enough money.
Great report. I was planning to attend this show all year, but then things changed. I'm so bummed to not be there.
Sound's like a blast!!
Nice Indian Head Cent with the Eagle Eye sticker. Equivalent to a CAC Sticker.
Thanks for the report - refreshing.
Nice pickup also.

I planned to be there too, but we decided to take a family trip.
So, I still win!
Nice report & pics, thank you!
Went to Philly last year for the PCGS member show and had a blast. If you leave the Reading Market still starving, you really need to catch the next plane home, that's just all kinds of wrong.

Nothing more fun than walking the aisles at a BIG coin show. Thanks for the chance to experience this one.
One thing I wish was more prevalent at Long Beach is the competition and/or educational displays. (I think they had some at one time, but it seems to have died off....) I guess LB is kind of the definition of a "commercial show". I enjoyed looking at them at the Anaheim ANA show....
Did you have an urge to run for the door when you held the nickel? Lol
Nice report, thanks for sharing.

There was a security guard that accompanied the coin. He allowed me to remove the slab from the intercept shield to examine it and have a picture taken. However, his job was to protect the coin and he did his job quite well.
Nice report. I wanted to be there but could not make it this year. Thank you for sharing a little piece of it with us.
And nice Indian Cent.
Thanks for the report. Looks like you had a great time.
Thanks for the interesting report. Your friend Tim looks as if he has designs on that gold bar! What a thrill to hold the 1913 nickel up close & personal. Excellent choice of a scarce, high grade RB Indian Cent.
I was stuck in the Philadelphia airport for hours last night. If I had planned in advance, I'd have been tempted to have stayed over a day for the show. Rats!
I knew it would happen.
Thanks, good report and nice pickup. Looks like a good time.
I really enjoyed your report and the pics you posted. I very much appreciate you "taking me into the show" with you It certainly looks like you had a fantastic time.

Thanks for the report. I'm looking forward to experiencing it for myself on Friday.

Excellent report - Thank you... and that IHC is great and you got it from a great dealer. Cheers, RickO
Thank you Ricko. I must admit that you are the one that motivated me to do a show report. I wasn’t sure if I could writeup what forum members were looking for. Since I was looking for interesting things to photograph I saw more than I would have otherwise. I know that I appreciate it when others tell their story of the show through their own eyes.
Thank you for your time in putting together your report! That's a nice IHC and Rick Snow ( @EagleEye ) is a class act and great to deal with.

Tomthemailcarrier, that 1864 Bronze Indian Cent has a carbon spot on the first S of States that may need to be neutralized before it starts eating into the metal.

I really liked your report and gives those of us who couldn't attend a vicarious thrill!
Hey, I have an idea. I think the ANA should provide either wine or bourbon to encourage collectors to spend more time at the exhibits!
Thanks for your report, that's a great looking IHC!
Thanks for the fantastic report!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Great report, took time to lay it all out for us that couldn't or can't make it. kudos!
There is no carbon spot on the first S in STATES. Maybe a darker tone, but no spot.
One of the advantages of the Photo Seal, is that you can download the images from our web site:

This particular coin was added to inventory by my son, Kenny, who is developing a great eye for coins. He is also the chief photographer for the coins, including this one. He was quite proud that Tom picked this coin over others and showed it off here on the forum.
