Often when , when conditions are right, the sun rising over Denmann Island and Baines Sound ( Vancouver island, British Columbia -Canada) , creates some great color shows interacting with clouds.
NASA's Kepler Telescope has recently discovered a planet that is very like our own, orbiting a star that is quite close within our own Galaxy.
Kepler 186f, was found in the Cygnus Constellation around 500 light-years from Earth.
In our Galaxy alone, the Milky Way, NASA has estimated around 40 billion Earth-sized planets but this new discovery is the the first to be found in the habitable zone of the star it orbits.
So I'm in the Tulsa Raceway pits on Mid west pro mod set -up day with a gentleman who is an astute car collector, as this guy is unloading this vette from his trailer and he said i think that might be a 68 tiger shark...and i took off walking...he walks up and gave a quick look and makes the owner a handsome cash offer to buy, he declines the offer, he calls John back a couple hours later after he blew the rods
out of his race car during testing and wanted to accept his offer....done deal be right there loaded it in his trailer and took it home, never drove it...rare bird.......

Aboard Washington State Ferry, Salish. The Route is part of SR 20, to Port Townsend. Ferry had to stand off for twenty minutes. I was talking with a retired captain of the Nimitz.

For those of you that like satellite imagery of the Earth, there's a fun little free app that works on Macs. It's called Downlink (specifically Downlink 1.0). You can download it from the Mac apps store. It will appear on the menu bar (the far upper right portion of your screen). When activated it will give you 8 different satellites (GOES etc.) to choose from to display. The app will then display as your screen saver a current/almost current image from that satellite. You can set the image to be updated either every hour or every 20 minutes. Unfortunately the coverage is only of North and South America and the Pacific Basin countries (e.g. inclusive of a chunk of eastern Asia), but that is still well more than half the Earth's surface.
When my dad was a boy he purchased a walnut rifle gunstock blank but never got around to ever using it. It sat in the rafters of my grandparents shed for a couple decades and unfortunately developed a large split, making it unfit for its intended purpose.
In high school wood shop class, I got the notion to use it to make a chess board. Cherry was used for the light squares and it won a blue ribbon at the county fair.
The poor thing has followed me through 15 moves and six states and started to show some wear. While we were back east the humidity got to it and it cracked. Add a few rim dings and surface hits and she was down to about VF30.
This week I dug it out, filled the crack, stripped off the old poly finish, sanded out the bumps & bruises, re-routered the edges, and hit it with a new lacquer finish.

I’m in central West Virginia. I believe it’s a northern black racer. No harm came to it. In fact, I’m sure I saved it from certain death had the neighbors found it.
