Posted here and below are a series of additional exhibits on display at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City as photographed there last week. They even include an exhibit featuring some unique coins unrelated to those minted at the Carson City Mint.
The personal significance of this exhibit was its reminder to me of having as a child visiting the Governor's Mansion in Carson City Nevada when Grant Sawyer was the Governor and my Great Aunt was the Governess to his and Mrs. Sawyer's child who was the same age as me and also born in Elko, Nevada.
Finally, a temporary exhibit currently on display at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City featuring the Chinese Woodcutters whose efforts made mining of the gold and silver possible by supplying the vast quantities of wood that were necessary for operation of the steam engines that powered the mining equipment:
Among the relics and artifacts from the once existent Chinese wood cutting camps were these coins:
Another display included in the exhibit featuring the Chinese wood cutting camps were these artifacts which included the finding of a small jar with Chinese lettering that shared a poignant message.
The message is as applicable and instructive to us today as it was to the small groups of men organized into the Chinese wood cutting camps - "Profit Together."
On a personal note this exhibit reminds of a similar banner that once hung in the Fort Halleck Nevada Ranch House occupied by my grandparents during World War II. The four stars affixed to it represented my Dad and three of his brothers who were at war. (As a child I came across it when going through the attic of the once lived in ranch house and still have it today.)
