Wednesday, July 20, 2022- Caterpillars pretty much full size.
Friday, July 22 2022- Caterpillars started to J-hang the night before and formed chrysalis during the day. Of the three eggs that hatched the first Friday, one was hit by fly parasites and died. The other two are still looking good and should hatch the first week of August.
Sunday, July 31, 2022- Bonus random pic from today while moving some caterpillars to a new plant.

That is Alex Honnold during the first free-solo of the Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. The only way to get there is straight up, no trail. Photograph by Jimmy Chin.
I've done the NW Face of Half Dome a couple of times (with ropes of course).
It's a great climb, first done in 1957.
This part is called "Thank God Ledge", because it's very easy to get across it,
and it avoids a big overhang called "The Visor" above.
People often try to walk across it, but they get about as far as is shown in the photos,
and realize there is a much narrower section coming up.
Even Alex Honnold paused at that point on his solo and "took a moment".
It's easy if you just put "one cheek" on the ledge, lead with your right foot and let your left leg dangle.
You can get really good "hand jams" in the crack behind the ledge and there is no way you will fall off.
@1630Boston@yosclimber Personally I wouldn't either, but I mean it has been there for a few thousandish or more years so it's probably ok. Admittedly though, stuff does peel off in the valley, flakes do come away, and people have died as a result. Personally I'm to terrified to get that close with no railing.
Fun story, I was at Glacier Point shooting across photographing Half Dome right against the railing, roughly a 3000 foot drop next to me. All of a sudden I turned around and found two tourists standing directly behind me on top of the railing for a photo. If I'd turned or backed up suddenly I would have hit them and sent them to the their deaths at the valley below. I screamed at them and a park ranger saw what was up and came over, screamed at them also, and escorted them away from the area and told them to return to the Valley.

@yosclimber @1630Boston I'm personally of the opinion that climbing big walls is way more sane than flying little airplanes.
