Your pictures from the Cal capitol and Sutter's Mill brought back a lot of fun memories. We lived in Sacramento for a few years--my husband is originally from the area--and we did a lot of hiking up in the Folsom Lake area. Didn't do any gold panning up there, but it would been fun.
One of my fun memories of hiking up there in the late-90s was I was a bit of a daredevil at the time (still am) and started to climb up this really high, somewhat sheer boulder. There were a bunch of vultures sitting at the top and they started doing that thing where they bob their heads side-to-side and make a bunch of horrible noises. They were extremely interested in what I was doing. No doubt hoping I'd fall, maybe break a leg if they were lucky and perhaps that other noisy, large primate waving its arms at the bottom of the boulder would leave and they would have a nice feast.
As I climbed up the rock my husband yelled, "Come down from there. If you won't listen to me, even the vultures think you are going to fall and they're the experts!"
"Experts" has been a bit of an inside joke between us ever since.
My Muscovy I got earlier this spring/summer is finally figuring out what it's wings are for - right after I snapped these it flew off of the logs and I missed it............

A few of my favorites taken in Japan during 2019 before the international travel restrictions.
The first castle photo is of Himeji Castle and its pictured walkway duplicates the location of a scene in the 1967 James Bond film "You Only Live Twice." (The Himeji Castle was used as the set location for the Ninja School in the movie.)
The preceding two photos are of the giant Tori off Miyajima Island near Hiroshima and the sunset castle gate photo is in Kanazawa and the pictured pearl diver is off Mikimoto Isand near Ise, Japan.

Can add with regard to the Japanese Pearl Diver that while they are generally known as "Ama" (literally, "sea women"), on the Ise Peninsula where I took this photo they are known as "Kaito." In 1956 there were over 17,000 Ama in Japan but today now less than 2,000. They are capable of. holding their breath for up to 7 minutes as they dive to depths exceeding 40 feet.
FWIW, the cruise ship pictured in the distance is the Dimond Princess and was the ship that was in early 2020 subsequently quarantined with its passengers in Tokyo Harbor off Yokohama at the inception of the current pandemic.
Not the best picture, but I saw these two desperados on a tree outside of my kitchen window and managed quick shot before they noticed me noticing them and made themselves scarce.
Here are a few recent photos - we have a some apple trees so when I saw the recipe in the NY Times for an apple cake with salted caramel frosting baked in a skillet I had to try it! Also a couple Halloween photos - my wife's latest hobby is making mini movie sets. The whole house is full of them! The doll is a model of her which is pretty cool.
Well haven't got the Muscovy in picture flying off the ground yet but got the wings a flappin coming out of the garage to spend the day in the yard............If you ever watched them "Jeepers Creepers" movies - it's wings flapping sound just like it

By the way my kitties think they would like to (meat) your birds🐈. I explained that they would not like to (meet) your birds because they would probably become (meat) and suffer a whopping 🙀😉
Here is a little mountain height trivia for anyone interested.
Although Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world from sea level (29,035 feet), Hawaii's Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain as measured from its (ocean) base (33,497 feet.)
Denaii f/k/a Mt. McKinley while 20,320 feet above sea level is actually taller than Everest when both mountains are measured from their base. Reportedly Denali is the tallest land-based mountain on earth.
All that said there are claims by Equador's Mount Chimborazo. Mount Logan in the Canadian Yukon, Kilimanjaro in Africa, and a peak in Pakistan (Rakaposhi) to being "the tallest" by varied definitional measurement standards.
Chimborazo is the tallest when measured from the center of the earth due to the equatorial bulge that adds over a mile to the earth's distance from the earth's center at the equator making its peak closer to the moon and stars than any other mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro's claim to height fame is that it is the tallest of all stand alone mountains if mountains located in mountain ranges can be excluded from the competition.
Believe it or not, this little guy was on the outside of my car, on my door. Also, that's what he exactly was "small". Very small. The size of my thumbnail! Lol
Still puts fear in some people, me!
Doesn't he look like a gigantic tarantula?
Check out his beautiful back.

OK, it is still only Monday, but these were the mountains as viewed from the office this morning.
(FWIW, Denali, the one on the right, is the tallest in North America)
