@koynekwest The audio equipment I brought back from Okinawa. About half the price that they cost here in the USA.

Ron, I came home from overseas in 1972 with a Sansui Amp, Dokorder 4 reel deck, Pioneer Speakers, an akai turntable and several other pieces. in 1978 I sold them all and bought a complete Bang and Olafsen amp, deck, speakers and turntable with the proceeds. Unbelieveable, but I got 12 times what I paid for the system overseas. The Dokorder 4 reel deck was truly rare because the preamp was elevated with the extra 2 reels on dual posts, I can't even find a photo of it online. It almost paid for everything.
Could have never afforded to buy either system in the states.

    Jim-

1972 is when I came home, too. The far east is an audiophile's paradise. I also brought back several kimonos for my future wife. Those are long gone, too.

Nice. Been wanting to catch one of those for a while, eastern diamondbacks around here.

You are much braver than I am and I'm into herpetology.

I catch every one I see but I don’t harm or treat them carelessly. Only recently handled a few copperheads. Rattlesnakes are in this area but scarce. I hear they’re really increasing in numbers out west.

    Good for you!

Positive thoughts and prayers for the good folks in and around the Redding area, California. This is a horrible fire that seems to double in size every night since it has started.
80,000 plus acres and over 500 plus structures leveled. 3 deaths so far and all are firefighters.

    Very sad and very frightening.

On the news last night there was a report that the Hoover Dam (upon which California heavily relies for its electric power) is outputting at least 25% less power due to low drought caused water levels. Is this the cause of the referenced power shortages being experienced or is it simply because of all the increased air conditioner usage due to the unusually hot weather causing a drain?

1892-S Barber Quarter... really nice until you see the reverse... then something is odd:

A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.

Seems like the PG&E power company has never fully recovered from being sued for over 2.5 billion for sparking numerous wildfires the last few years. BUT the nutty politicians came up with the brilliant idea nobody can clean up fallen timber/dead trees around their power lines. Or any residents that have dried fallen timber around their houses/property. So , in essence, creating a perfect storm for any spark or lightning strike to start fires. It's a crazy situation
