It’s not an ms69 but still, Wow! Spot and all

Do you mean CAC reviewed it but declined to bean it?

I can see why it's a very nice coin. The best part is you can always remove the color if it's not right and will be just the same a very nice coin. You did very good..

"But some coins transcend their numerical grade..."

Very important point, especially where prior ownership is concerned.

Guess it didn't CAC because of the listed graded.

But WOW. Beautiful coin. You must be thrilled.

Beautiful piece, easily recognized by the toning mark over the Eagles left shoulder. So now the provenance in important, interesting.

It is not a toning mark and I agree with the post above. @TDN sure has a good eye. I think collectors of his caliber also must get the first crack at the best-of-the-best coins.

I have to say I do find it attractive. Don’t see much under that color either. Not sure the price but you can always cross it over ask for dip. (Wink wink) apparently not all get this as not what I would do. So I will just add it here.

    Nice coin.

I like it! On a coin like that, some things just dont matter much. I would have bought it raw!

The spot on the reverse is distracting but you can always avoid looking at that side. Now, the obverse gives me thoughts of Lady Liberty sitting on the edge of a pier on a cool summer evening as the sun is setting and beautiful calm blue water below her feet.

That is a really pretty coin! I aspire to own something like that one day!

Holy crap that thing is gorgeous problem coon or not.

“Some coins transcend their numerical grade.”

    This!!!

True of so many coins. Just like certain houses & properties transcend anything you can put in an appraisal.

I like the crisp strike and awesome toning. I'm sure that it's one of the nicest examples in the series. You'll have something to take out and admire for as long as you are the caretaker. Congrats!

Awesome coin! Did Laura have a mini stroke when she saw you purchased a non-CACed coin and NGC at that?

Well, your the expert in this series so I would expect you would be able to pick this coin out in a crowd and disregard the plastic, stickers, etc., etc. Lets hope others can learn from your action.

Only you can decide if you overpaid since an unstickered NGC 69 Trade Dollar with a well-known provenance is pretty tough to calculate a "market price" on. Lovely coin and the "spot" is not very noticeable in your photo.

    Good stuff.

If the coin "speaks" to you and it is unique or nearly so, then you did not overpay.

  • PTVETTERPTVETTER Posts: 6,028 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have seen that coin before.
I think it was on this forum, but I may be wrong!
I remember that spots the reverse.
    Very sharp strick.

I saw it last year. What an amazing Proof Trade Dollar. That coin is beyond anything imaginable. Even before the toning kicked in, it was just a superbly well made coin. Congrats.
