Give me your thoughts on this Morgan. Is it a "monster"? Does it deserve much of a premium? It DOES have a CAC sticker. let me know what you think. Guess the grade if you can.

Its a PCGS MS64 CAC.

To me, the toning is neutral, not particularly great, but not bad either.
    I'm guessing MS66?

MS65.....slight premium but certainly no "monster".

Nice coin, not sure it would CAC at 66. I'll go 65.

64+ and in need of a dip just like most of the coins you seem to post.

65 or 66. I'm going to guess 65. Not a huge premium for toning, but I would expect a bit of a premium -- but nothing like some of the bag-toned Morgans.

65 cac, not a monster by any means, but pleasant enough toning, if that your thing.

For the record I mixed you up with kollectorking in regards to my statement but stand by the fact that she still needs a dip. Peace

Depends on luster. Looks 65ish. Slightly positive toning. 81-S coins in this range don't need a sticker. It's irrelevant and doesn't add much. In other words, if you don't like this one, there are a couple hundred thousand other ones in PCGS plastic to chose from. Just pick one you really like. :)

Can't see why it wouldn't get a bean at MS 65. Toning add 20%.

No monster, MS-64 with attractive toning.

65 shot 66 (if sufficient luster in hand)

The 1881-S typically comes with flashy luster and there are many luster bombs. Any muting of the luster on this date and the services will be brutal grading wise.

The color is nice, but not something I would pay a premium for nor do I think most other collectors would either. It is not close to monster toning.

Not a monster but certainly attractive and better than a white one (unless perhaps that white one is a nice PL or DMPL).

I am curious as to what that long rectangular impression is on her cheek? Is it really there or is it my eye's playing tricks on me? As far as being a monster toner, no. But I really like this type of toning. It most certainly does NOT NEED A DIP!!!

@blitzdude, we get that you don't like toned coins. Dip yours, that's fine, but you really don't need to tell everyone to dip theirs. Most of us on here like the original skin, even if it came from an album or a canvas bag or some other storage medium. It's what makes them unique in a sea of blast white coins.

I think it's just my eye's playing tricks on me. I would call it a 65 with a good chance at CAC.

  • BillJonesBillJones Posts: 34,674 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wth so many nice ones in existence, the grading on this issue has been brutally conservative, That's why I said MS-64. I think that if this piece were to be dipped, which I would highly oppose, you would find that the cheek is not as perfect as it might appear to be.

Its a PCGS MS64 CAC. There are a few hits hidden in the picture on the obverse.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Definitely not a coin that would fit with @AuroraBorealis collection... and one that would be improved by a judicious dip.... Cheers, RickO

I actually prefer that sort of toning to the bright colorful ones.
