GTG: 14-S buff

Another one of a handful of Truviews I got back yesterday. Take a stab at guessing the grade, avoiding the temptation to peak. I will offer some personal thoughts on the piece later

The reverse seems to show the faintest of rub, but it could be the toning (high points in an old envelope?); the obverse looks pristine. I'll guess 63, and very attractive.
I really want to guess 65, but my recollection is this coin is tough in 65 and above grades, so I'm going to guess 64 because of muted luster.
Count me in the 64 camp as well.

Nice coin, good strike. I like it at 64, so I'll say 63.
A touch of wear on the hip, shoulder and maybe horn. Beautiful 58

I like it as a 63, more luster would be a 64. Since you posted this, I'm going to say the toning made it seem like them was trace wear, AU 58.
I see it as a 58+. Gem surfaces with what looks like a touch of rub on the hip and tail on the reverse.
I see rub on reverse. Strike is nice..
Would not blink as a 58 but classic au63....
I like it
I like it as a 64 all day long.
Superb and beautiful coin . . .with much to warrant a high grade. I look at it as 64-65.
But something like this transcends a strictly numerical grade . . . . . . it is just a superb numismatic piece.
Bravo . . .

Yes I'm in the MS64/5 camp, Cool buffalo.
Hoard the keys.
If that's rub on the hip, AU58
If instead it's incomplete strike, MS64.
I bought this coin in an OGH as a 63. I, like most people that played along, saw a pretty strong case for an upgrade. I busted it out and sent it in for grading mid-May. I am shocked that PCGS gave the grade of 58. If anything the Truview sells short the luster, and in hand, there is absolutely-positively no luster breaks. At first I thought our hosts had gotten the grades shuffled with other's in that submission (although I no longer think that with everything back in-hand). It will be making another journey back to the grading room at some point in the future.

Successful Trades: Swampboy,
Sounds like even the pros are all over the map on that one - best of luck on the next trip, Alain!
Wow... I am surprised... I thought 63.... and still think that. Nice Buff... Cheers, RickO
I like it. 65
I don't think I could ever crack a Buffalo out of a MS holder!
One of the big reasons I quit collecting Buffalos was the inconsistencies at this grade level. I think there are only a handful of people who REALLY know how to grade the coin and most of the time, you are not getting one of them when you send it in. I have been at countless shows and shown many of them to several dealers. One will say "AU58"...then the guy at the next table will say "probably a 62 or 63. Fwiw...I do not see the rub on the hip and tail that a few other members are seeing(but it might be evident in hand). Overall though...I think it has great eye appeal!
