Sure, save your rancor for the old timers.
Exactly, they can take it. They are likely curmudgeons themselves.
Here is a tranquil brook in keeping with the spirit.
Now get off of my lawn.
Wait, continued abuse? So once or twice is alright? Are Newbies required to ask how much a coin is worth and follow up with a blurry pic? Is that a tranquil brook or a crooked creek? So many questions, so little time.
Understood.
I don't recall being salty towards you but if so, I apologize.

jmlanzaf, so we are allowed to be abusive to you?
We were all newbies at one point. And I do believe every member here are willing to welcome, answer and share their knowledge . The biggest issue was not our welcome committee. But once a while, a newbie would insist he/she knew more than our respectful members.
To make this matter worst, some newbies would just post multiple topics for us to agree and say what they like to hear. As result, some of our members felt offended while others chose not to make any more comment on the same topic.
Ok..... Let's practice....
LLOOK! THIS IS DEFINITELY A TRIPLE DIE! YOU CANT DENY IT!
Now say something nice.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Yes it is worth
ms70, great sense of humor. You probably don't remember but via a PM years ago you taught me the ropes around here. I took your advise. Thanks.
MS70 is a quality member!
I dont think anyone here has a problem helping out. But you have to question the motive of the posters with one post count, taking an upside down picture of a 2018 cent,
Then taking the time to find a coin based chat board on the web,
Start a thread, use broken English, not even asking question. But can't look up a question about the cent?
Sometime people are just screwing with
Us and it pretty obvious.

I agreed with @BruceS
Alt/ trolls self-identify quickly. Silence or sarcastic derision are both acceptable. One of them is more fun.

@BlindedByEgo
The action of making a purchase does not prove one's worth; it is one's actions and intentions that show the world one's honour.
I am confused.....who made a purchase of what and for who?
yes. I'm used to it and far from a newbie.
How long til July?
Some definitely are trolling. Others, it's not so obvious. And some of us have taken to universally flaming newbie posts.
And frankly, sarcastic derision or any attention at all, is exactly what they want. If you really, really, really think they are trolls, you are far better served by ignoring them.
And, if there is even the smallest chance that they are not trolls, then you are far better served by silence of a helpful response.
If you drive away all the newbies, who will buy your coins when you are ready to sell?
Yes, I agree that many of them are probably trolls. But trolls want attention, even negative attention, so why give it to them. And for any newbie truly an interested newbie, making them feel unwelcome makes us poor ambassadors to the hobby.
The stamp hobby was killed off by a number of problems. But the sheer arrogance of old stamp collectors at coin shows was part of the problem. The Philatelist would have multiple letters to the editor every time the issue came up with people complaining about rudeness of dealers and other collectors to them when they asked naive questions.
There's no upside to flaming a newbie, even if they are a troll.
You meant good and no response is better than less than good response
Thank you for trying to help our fellow collectors.....
A lot of the trolls don't answer back with any kind of legitimate reasoning.

When that guy found a tripled die obverse Kennedy, people gave him s*** claiming damage and more than horsing around. It was trolling, and abusive and included inflammatory remarks on character and personality.
Not only did he have the Kennedy tripled die variety, but a much nicer one, and in later die state. It was a gorgeous piece.
I am late hours frolicking
"Don't feed the troll" has always worked for me. Trolls crave attention and when they don't get it, they go away.

Everyone has the inclination to think they have found "the big one" and quick $. Rare usually means you don't have it. After 2 stupid mistakes enough is enough. When even paradise has had enough that says it all. Ask your question, accept the advice and move on.
@Paradisefound ...."I am late hours frolicking
"....Well... I would not be able to post if I was late night frolicking....I find it takes all my attention...
As far as the main topic...I try to welcome new members, and be diplomatic in my responses. However, some have pushed the envelope a tad... and the offer from Paradisefound went unclaimed... which was strange.
Cheers, RickO
It may have been strange. It may be paranoia. If I posted a legitimate offer to send a free Silver Eagle to any member who simply provided me with an address, how many people would reject the offer from fear it might be some kind of scam?
If I may invoke good old Coinside7 - he was an obvious troll. He repeatedly posted damaged pocket change and then argued with members who told him it was PMD pocket change. Of late, I've seen two newbies post a question and then actually mark the thread "answered" after a couple members told them it was nothing - and a couple members made sarcastic cracks. They may NOT have been trolls, but we do ourselves and the hobby no favor by treating them like they are Coinside7.1
And @ricko I am not speaking of you. You are always positive and kind in your responses.
Either 100 posts OR 6 different posts with pictures of pocket change.
Trolls show be ingnored.
Doubled dies are not on my radar for the most part, especially the ones that require a minimum of a 10X glass to see them. I answered one of the suspected trolls once and an "old timer" warned me about it. I guess it goes with the old saying, “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me.” I might give a doubled die troll two or three answers, but after that it’s the cold shoulder; ignore them.
Wasting our time with pocket change is not cool.
And by the way, if June is be nice to newbies month, can we kick their butts in July?
Just to put this out there, I never saw that thread. I just randomly said "triple die". This was not aimed at whoever that was. Just goofing around.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
No worries here. Your mention of a tripled die reminded me of it.

I have found the forum here to be well balanced between intelligent answers, humor, knowledgeable personalities, some sarcasm, cool giveaways, occasional ridiculous questions, great disputes between seasoned old timers, and the conversations almost always stay true to the topic of coinage!!!!!!! I'm sure the occasional Troll finds his/her way here, but doesn't last long. I've almost been here a year and I've learned a lot.

The one thing I wish this forum software had was blocking threads from ignored users and having a larger block list. Some people can't help but feed the trolls, and it would keep more important threads on the first page.
Russ just rolled over!!!
I had to disagree with this as SeanB has already had more than 6 different posts with pictures of pocket change and @jmlanzaf was kind enough to give me my first two **and only **disagrees when I gave SeanB a sarcastic reply to what he was asking. If I was new and wanted to learn about errors I would have been all over Paradisefound's challenge for a free Cherrypickers' guide, but he and others couldn't be bothered. They are just a bunch of trolls with no names and no introductions when they come on here. Real people used to introduce themselves when they met face to face, now we use screen names so we can hide behind our keyboard with no consequences to what we say. I have no use for people that hide behind a keyboard. I stand behind every post I make and I prove it by putting my name at the bottom and my last name is next to my icon and if anybody would like to meet face to face and talk coins or anything else below is my home address. My phone number is also listed in the Somerville phonebook if you would like to look me up and give me a call.
