Will increase in $2 note production affect $1 coins?
Not having seen a $2 note in circulation for a Very Long Time, I was rather surprised to see the $2 note production as high as it is, and climbing. I assume this means these are actually used in commerce somewhere. Do you think either the 50c or $1 coins will become more popular in these areas due to the $2 note's use?… -

Re: Shield nickel 1883/2 or 1882 repunch?
This is an example of the 1882 "heavy 2". The 2 part of the logotype punch was breaking down filling in the 2 and making it into a blob. These are quite common on the 1882 nickels and many dealers try to and do sell them as the 1883/2 overdate. A few enterprising dealers even try to call them an 1882/1 overdate. One key… -

Re: 1979 Type 2 Proof Sets questions
The 1979 set can be found with a mix of types, it is not considered to be a type 2 set unless ALL of the coins in the set are type 2. Some scammers have used that to their advantage calling any set that had at least some type 2 coins in it a type 2 set and then pricing them at the graysheet type 2 set level. -

Collecting Liberty Eagles ($10) - Type 2 or 3?
I notice that PCGS has 2 different sets listed in their Registry - Circulation Strikes (1838-1907) & Circulation Strikes (1866-1907). Questions: 1. Is this purely because Type 2 coins are harder to locate? 2. Can you think why they didn't create the set "Circulation Strikes (1838-1865)" i.e. just Type 2. I wonder if David… -
Re: 1823/2 Bust Quarters
<<Begs the question: Do the 27/3/2 coins show the die rust? >> The re strikes sure do The 23/2 Proof shows relatively minor die rust. The 27/3/2 Originals and "Essays" do not show any die rust at all. The 27/3/2 Restrikes have a ton of die rust, but not the same as on the 23/2. Clearly, die rust was removed in 1827, some… -
Re: Whats your favorite silver coins ?

My favourite silver coins are German 90% silver coins. The ½ Mark, 1 Mark & 5 Reichsmark are often available in quantity for spot or even a little less while the Vereinsthaler coins and 2, 3 & 5 Mark coins usually carry a little premium. All in all kind of a fun way to both collect and stack silver coins for less money per…
