Re: Post your British Monarch coins
Not exactly a coin, but a pretty dang cool medal offered for sale to the public in both silver and bronze at the time of issue. The bronze pieces number in the thousands, but only 260-silver medals were produced. This British historical medal features the conjoined busts of George VI and Elizabeth on one side along with a… -
Re: Better overall First Baseman: Willie McCovey or Eddie Murray?
I like OPS. It combines the two most important (in my mind) offensive stats, getting on base and long(er) hits. Your last post, comparing Murray to a new set of players makes more sense to me. Guys that retired with BOTH .320+ batting averages and 500 or so home runs are MUCH harder to find than the .260-.280 guys. I also… -

Re: Jeter's Defense
This line from the article stands out, and should shoot down anyone who wants to defend Jeter as good, even mediocre on defense: "According to two historical play-by-play-based systems, Baseball Prospectus's Fielding Runs Above Average and Baseball-Reference's Total Zone, Jeter has cost his team more in the field than any… -
Re: Name a coin you haven't seen on the auction block in years
<< <i>Any of the singular extant 1804 Proof $10. The Bass Collection coin was last at auction in 1982. The Simpson Collection coin last was at auction in 1988. >> 1982 Eliasberg? So I take it that the Simpson coin is the ex: Baldenhofer coin, which did not sell in Les Fox' (mostly) Amazing Gold Rarities (Akers-Stacks… -
Re: Vintage Cars or Vintage Coins in 2015
<< <i> 1965 Falcon Convertible. 101 HP, 170 CID inline 6, 3 speed manual on the column, power steering, reverse lights. All stock except for a little head work. It's so much fun to watch people's faces when they see you shift gears!!! >> I know what you mean, I had a 1964 Ford Ranchero with three-on-the-tree. I also had a… -
Re: Embarrassing or Amazing Do You Remember Your First Ever Submission
My first submission was in 1999. I changed email addresses on my account about ten years ago and can no longer access my subs from my previous account. I'll have to contact customer service to see if they can find them and merge them into my current account records. I subbed the stars from my 1969 set. Here were the… -
Re: Looks like Bryce Harper is the new Dave Kingman
Kingman was all or nothing. 14 years struck out at least 120 times! For a HR hitter pitchers sure weren't afraid to pitch to him. Never walked. Even intentionally! OBP barely .300! Only had 3 years where he batted over .260. .230 - .240 was his norm. Terrible defensive player. Terrible teammate. Rude person! Not a Harper… -
Re: Fast poppage once again
Actually worth more than double the grading fees. Wouldn't be worth much without the grades. An Eck in 8 is nice. The Dan Ford is a low pop with VCP showing $100-260. The 1970 Scholifeld in a 9 is up there too. Although it would have been nice to get a few more 9s and a few less 8s. The 1976 Fuentes and Mayberry each one… -
Re: I just checked off an aviation bucket list item... what's on your numismatic bucket list?
My aviation bucket lists have been satiated, flown in a biplane(Pitts Special 260), a Soviet airliner(Yak-42), a Douglas DC-3 and a Ford Trimotor. I really do not care much for commercial flying these days - the last for me was a flight from Beijing to Toronto, a nice experience on Air Canada B-777 but I don't care for…
