Here is a recap of how my collection breaks down and who/how many I still need

Gary Hit 324 Homeruns off of 202 unique pitchers

When I started this project (April 2008) Gary hit 23 homeruns off of 12 unique pitchers that have passed away which leaves a possible 301 for 190 unique pitchers

Montreal flooded with tributes for Expos great Gary Carter

MONTREAL - City Hall was flooded with close to 2,000 suggestions for ways to honour the late Expos great, Gary Carter, after it launched a public call for ideas in February.

Carter, an 11-time all-star who entered the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 as a Montreal Expo, died of cancer in February at age 57.

Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay called on citizens shortly after Carter's death to send suggestions to the city's website on how to pay tribute to a man who was so popular during his 11 seasons in Montreal, even the prime minister was jealous.

Then prime minister Pierre Trudeau reportedly said, "I am certainly happy that I don't have to run for election against Gary Carter."

Tremblay said the city received "a variety of high-quality ideas" and it will discuss with Carter's family on which one to choose.

Carter was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1972. He won three Gold Glove awards with the Expos. He was traded to the New York Mets in 1984 and helped the team win the 1986 World Series.

This is the best project I've ever seen anyone undertake on these boards...terrifically put together and to read the notes
from some of these guys recalling Gary is really special. Awesome work!

    +1

As a lifelong Met fan, Gary was always one of my absolute favorite players, and an even better human being. Fantastic project! And as coincidence would have it, I've been going through a '76 vending set I bought years ago, and I got to the Gary Carter just last night. Unlike much of the set, he's well-centered and looking great! Long live the Kid!

I worked for the Cubs during the 80's and had heard that Gary Carter was a huge collector of OPC cards and had an impressive collection. I had just come across a large lot of OPC cards and went to the clubhouse one day and asked him if he wanted them as I wanted to give them to a collector who appreciated OPC's (I didnt bring the cards with...just asked if he wanted them at no cost). He thanked me for thinking of him but he already had complete sets of the years in question. We did proceed to have a 5 minute conversation about the hobby and his collecting habits. It was cool to get the perspective on this hobby from one of the guys that was featured on the cards we all collect.

He was a great guy who didnt "big league" anyone and was always ready to talk baseball or the hobby. This is a really cool project and I hope you keep updating us with your progress.

Congrats on the recent additions. Lynch can't be a fan of his 1987 Topps card. Looking at how much his signature varies just over those three cards, I don't know how autograph authenticators do it.

Love seeing updates to this thread. One of my favorites. Hard to believe Carter didn't touch up Rhoden after 1978. They played against each other in the same division from 79-86.
