I pulled #54 from retail which also says 1962 rather than 2011......code is no different from base cards however.

Thanks Cory, Joe, Stoney, & Eric for the scans. It makes this thread so enjoyable. Walt , thanks for all your great info as usual. That applies to you as well Geordie, always need to know the variations.

My hobby case is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, until then I can't talk much about trading but as always am up for Red Sox autos, CC, ad panels, buybacks , coins , etc. Anything that I don't pull in the oddball items in short.

Jim, the sticker set is listed at 46.

no Doran this year, Dave. He told me that he's focusing on his guitar collection. Cards are a low priority right now.

It won't seem quite the same. At least there are a lot of us who've done this for quite a while, some longer than others plus some enthusiastic relatively new posters.

Who's betting zep gets ink in the first box of "crap" as he so eloquently put it. image

Btw, I'm back with 2 blasters & I dropped a subtle hint to my wife last night that if she just happened to stop at Walmart on her way home from work, good things may be in her future. image

  • as someone that caught the Heritage Flu late in life (2011), i am glad to be here and help out any way i can.

Sadly, my Target seems to be out of the "Exclusive" Blasters so i had to take the four "plain" blasters they had on the shelf.

If the 1962 Nicholson is a high number, is it possible that Topps only bought 1 copy and that it is either sitting in a private collection or a still-sealed box?

Still my favorite thread each year, so I have been following every post.

No offense Geordie, but Kershaw's signature sucks.

Too bad you couldn't hook a newbie with your bet Dave since zep was a lock for ink.

Picked up 2 blasters yesterday with nothing to speak of. I'll probably buy a few more and maybe a hobby box or three. image
  • TNP777TNP777 Posts: 5,711 ✭✭✭
no offense taken at all, Nick - I completely agree with you. Most of today's athletes have horrible sigs - Mariano Rivera is one of the only guys I can think of that has a very nice signature.

Anybody notice any difference in the blasters from Target vs. Walmart? In the past, it seemed Target had the better blasters.

I've noticed that I can pick up a retail pack and there will be nothing in it guaranteed! If you are able to pick up hobby boxes for 70 or 75
there is just no reason to buy retail.

Yep, most guys have awful signatures now. Sandy Alomar Jr has a beautiful signature. So does Jake Peavy. Mariano's is nice, Paul Konerko's is nice and consistent. The rest are blah. The old guys (80s and back) have solid graphs.
  • WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
wow the first (of only 2 so far) Willie Mays real one autograph only gets 325 bucks?? Gotta think it being a redemption kept prices low, even though if you did a little
research topps said it was ready to ship. That is a steal if you ask me, heck if I had the money I might pull the trigger on that 359 BIN sitting there.

kevin, good point, i may need to pick that up!

but consider you can hit a BIN on a 2001 heritage RED INK mays #/52 for less than 500. Curious to see what a koufax will go for if and when one shows up.

anyone willing to part with image or color swap variations? how about refractors?

who really knows how many red ink Mays there are out there? There will be far less Koufax, Aaron and Mays this year. I think Koufax will show up as a red ink numbered
    to 10

    Kevin/Jim,

I agree with you guys. If the Mays is short printed, $325 will be a steal for that card. Do you think Mays will have a red ink or will it be like the Koufax of 2011 with a blue ink only?
  • epatmythesepatmythes Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭
I busted 5 hobby boxes today... only interested in building the complete 500 card set though... so everything not part of that is fair game... for sale or trade!

I didn't hit any autographs in my five boxes... but one box yielded 2 memorabilia cards and a '63 Mint Quarter Yastrzemski redemption! As far as the SSP's go... I got an "Image Swap" in each box, but only 1 "Color Swap" out of the five!

Not to mention, 5 boxes didn't even produce a complete base set (1-425)... ended up with 527 duplicate cards, but still fell 5 short of the base set!

    Here are my wants first

    Short Prints: 432, 441, 446, 451, 453, 457, 462, 466, 471, 474, 475, 480, 482, 485, 487, 491, 494, 497, 500

Here is what I have available to sell and/or trade
    Base Set: 527 extras available
    Short Prints: 461, 469, 481
Image Swaps: 276 Ryan Braun, 415 Chris Carpenter, 453 Troy Tulowitzki, 468 Nelson Cruz (x 2)
Redemptions: '63 Mint Quarter Carl Yastrzemski 63CY
Original Buy Backs: 53 Joe Moeller, 378 Bill Henry
Clubhouse Collection GU: Brandon Phillips, Chris Carpenter, Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, Elvis Andrus, Jose Reyes
    Chrome (#/1963): 4 Ellsbury, 9 Pedroia, 49 Beckett, 54 Hernandez, 60 Hudson, 66 Bumgarner, 75 Zimmerman, 82 Sandoval, 88 Scherzer, 96 Rookie Stars, 99 Rookie Stars
    Chrome Refractors (#/563): 27 Uggla, 41 Hardy, 64 Jurrjens, 71 Harrison
New Age Performers: Jose Bautista (x 2), Joey Votto, Matt Kemp, Robinson Cano, Tim Lincecum
    Then & Now: Aparicio/Bourn, Killebrew/Bautista (x 2), Koufax/Kershaw, Mathews/Bautista (x 3), Marichal/Shields (x 3)
Flashbacks: Alcatraz (x 3), Al Kaline (x 2), Ernie Banks (x 3), Early Wynn (x 2), Hank Aaron, JFK, Juan Marichal, MLK Dream (x 2), MLK Negro Brother, Alabama, Tereshkova, Willie McCovey
