droopyd....it all depends on which boxes you have, their date, time, and batch will determine which errors you can expect to find. Then of course you would want to find the more key errors such as the wddr 001,

extra index finger, 002 extra thumb, 006 skeleton finger , etc. The last that I listed, the 006, is the most rare and desirable. They are only found in the 4/23 boxes between approx 10 am and 1 pm time frame.

My last box that I opened only yielded 5 of them. The values, especially ungraded, are very low still but will eventually increase when the general collecting public gets wind of these in the future coin publications

such as the Red Book and Cherrypickers Guides. I think they're still fun to search for. The better box dates are very hard to find any longer so I think the time is coming soon that these become more sought after.

Which box date and time do you have in your possesion?

Just to keep this thread current, I opened two boxes of 4/23 today....the first had the WDDR-006 skeleton finger on the end of the unopened roll.....left that one intact.....the second roll had seven of the skeleton

fingers and twelve of the small die crack variety that extends from the rim to the top of Lincoln's head (fairly common) ....of the seven skeleton finger samples, two had the early stage die crack on the obverse that

extends down from Lincoln's jacket into the rim. There is a later stage obverse die crack, same position, that is much more dramatic and adds a premium for its rarity (I don't have one of the late stages).

In reference to the gentleman who said he had boxes dated 4/21, the only box I opened of that date yielded only five WDDR-005's . That box was batch 9774 with a time of 08:53. Maybe somebody else opened a

later timed box of that date and had better results? Hope they can share with us what discoveries and insights they've gleaned since these hit the market..... image

My 5 boxes of LP2s are all 4/27/09, 09:10, batch 9774, never opened -- are these considered "good" ones?

Neither the 4/21 or the 4/27 were real good dates. The best ones I found were the 4/17,4/23,4/29. and 4/30. I had one box

that had over 40 different error coins in it, I don't remember what that date was.

Yes the cherrypickers guide is supposed to be coming out this month.
  • OnedollarnohollarOnedollarnohollar Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭✭
Mr. Simpson, the 4/27 box I opened was at a little later time 12:26 but had a WDDR 001 on the end roll. I kept that one wrapped, so potentially you have some good discoveries waiting for you. Good luck!

Has John Wexler ever posted on this forum regarding these errors and his thoughts about their importance, historically speaking?

I thought I would never see this thread revived.
I also pulled some WDDR-001's out of 4/27 boxes, only certain times though. That was a tough date to track times on. They were hit or miss mostly. I will have to look for my notes and will post if I can find it. Mike

4/27's are good for some dbl thumbs wddr001 and 003's. A few 002's can be found.

It's still about the thrill of the hunt, and finding something not commonplace.

This is a test to see who seriously collected these and catalogued the errors........what date box (boxes) yielded the dramatic reverse die crack that runs from the upper rim down to Lincoln's face?

Pitboss is partially correct...there were also some found in the 4/15 late afternoon boxes.....I'm assuming that the 4/16 boxes that yielded these were from the morning hours...(didn't have any of that date myself)

    Anyone wish to confirm times?
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
    4/17 ,4/23, 4/29 and 4/30 were my best dates

Yes, Pitboss, have to agree with those dates....very strong. I really enjoy hunting for these errors still today, even though they've been slow to capture the collecting communities' imagination......

I found 6 in one 4-23 roll stamped between 9-1.

I think I'm going to stick all that I have left in long term storage soon. I was giving out other errors for every one I sold just to move some of the less interesting ones along. It was fun finding them about two years ago, not so much any more.

I didn't know the bootstrap variety was worth anything. I threw all those and all the other die cracks into the burlap sack. I doubt I'll be looking through those again any time soon...

The log cabins were going for $100 at one time with no errors found. Only 100K minted in this type of packaging.

Incredible price. I will have to re-think submitting to Anacs. I'm fairly certain that I have a few that would grade in the 67-68 range. Thank you Dengarsen (the seller of this listing) for establishing a higher value to these errors.

were the WDDR-043's found in Mint boxes or bank rolls? If mint, anyone know the dates/times?

    image
  • BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭
Looks like there was a total of only 15 MS68 RD and 1 MS68 BR across all variants of the DDR's submitted and only 316 MS 67's

I guess I should feel lucky to have an MS 68 RD (CDDR-014) and a bunch of 67's

That 316 seems way too low for the number of 67's I have though....

Sorry, these were not in mint sets; bank rolls only.

I have an MS68 "Skeleton Finger" with the major crack, somewhere.

I'm also wondering if the ANACS totals are correct.

Wow, the creator returns; it's been years!!

Maybe some recognition will come with guide book inclusion.

Considering the last CPG update only went to 2000 for Lincolns, maybe by 2030 they'll get to 2012.

11 YEARS of missing info!! Poorly managed IMO

There is steady interest in these. I have had many buyers over the last few months, some returning for more.

These coins have not been forgotten. I have not sold any of mine in over a year but have been watching closely. I still have lots of MS67's.

<< <i>I'm glad I just saw this thread. I just went though several rolls again and found 3 of them, 1 solid or high end pcgs ms66 quality. Not sure if they came from the single mint wrapped roll I had or the nf string rolls. Does pcgs designate them? >>

PCGS has refused to grade these, even though they've been assigned CPG numbers, until the CPG is published.

My previous post made reference to my frustration with that. No updated Lincoln info, in the CPG, since the 2000 mintage and that was published in 2009.

Now it's 12 years behind. image

Hmmm... which ones are to be in the CPG? I hadnt heard that any were assigned numbers?

Well It's about time these {underrated} lincolns, come back in the spotlight! These may very well be stereotyped as "modern junk or too common" to some, but come on'. People have to admit, that the 2009 NEW design peaked the interest, and still peaking the interest, of many, many collectors today. I don't care if your young or old. These little bundles of joy, can excite you, if and when, you have a roll in hand! It's like when one buys a pack of baseball cards, wondering and hoping, that there's a little surprise waiting inside. Sure most may say," too many errors make this common" but once again, the bottom line, It peaks the interest, of the collector. which in return, makes it fun! After all, Isn't it the fun part, what this is all about? Then in the end, maybe, these little bundles of joy, still might be profitable down the road. Wouldn't that put egg on the face of the doubters? in the meantime, keep on hunting, who know's, maybe a new error will show up in this series, that would be the most rarest?image

No, not me mach19, but that might be a keeper? Did you have it graded? I would. I have a "wire" on the reverse, on the formative year coin. The wire is about 7:00 o'clock,on the reverse. Did you ever hear about mine?

I have seen people giving them away on ebay for the past year or so.

I think they will be sorry in the long run.

The more these get spread out though the better as this attracts attention to them.
