ASEs and ATBs repricing on Mint site

Wonder how high they go? Should have maybe bought some ATB Ps at $205 when they were there for the taking.

There will be many other repricings on the Mint's website. The key is to keep the pricing tables handy and to note when the spot price is approaching any of the repricing points. When that happens, it's decision-time. I was having regrets previously, until I realized that the same scenario repeats itself over and over again. That being the case, don't let the Mint's gyrations determine your strategy. That's best left to you.

So lets see, POS was like $35.35 at close of NY. I think the ATBs were priced at $205, which makes them $41.00 per ounce which put them approx. 13.8% above spot yesterday. It was a strong move in POS yesterday so could have eclipsed there low end margin - could it really be as simple as break below 15% and they reprice? It will be interesting to see where the ATBs reprice at, which will give clue to their starting margin comfort level. Say its 25% margin that would put ATBs are roughly $220.

I imagine the platinum proof eagles will go up too. I purchased one last Friday on that assumption. I figured with the bullion version being so difficult to buy, might as well get a proof. Plus, since there is no bullion version for 2011, it is a date filler for the set.

I actually ordered 5 x ASE's and 1 ea ATB on Wednesday. Just in the nick of time and still waiting for them to ship.....

With silver's death drop today, POS is now below where it was on Friday when they took these down for repricing. What a clown show, 4 days of no selling and they may just end up putting them back up for sale at the price they were before.

I hope your correct. But I think that they were a little under priced fro the mint anyway.

On a side note I am trying to decide what to do. I have each of the 2010's in there original mint shipping box (never opened) so do I spend the extra $5 shipping on each and order the 2011's the same way or do i save the $20 and have them all shipped together? I will keep them in the same form there shipped in (not opening the box)?
Any suggestions?

Why do you want to keep them in sealed boxes? Wouldn't you rather open them and enjoy them. There doesn't seem to be much of any extra value in keeping them sealed in boxes.

Many collectors will buy multiple sets and pick out the best coins and sell off the rest so there's a perception that opened sets have been picked over.

What a clown show

Silver was off 6 1/4% in one day, so I would expect they'd be re-figuring their pricing again now.

I'm not sure what takes them so long. When my company re-prices something, it's not an ordeal. It just gets done.

They have to publish the reprising in the federal register. "The suspended products are presumably in the process of having their prices adjusted to higher levels. Under typical procedures, the US Mint publishes new pricing within the Federal Register. Until the notification is published, product sales remain suspended." From Coin Update article

Amazing a week elapsed and these are still offsale, not a single coin sold in that time. Maybe the Mint should start operating more like a business, like all the other mints in the world do, then a jacked up gubermint operation.

Also when it does come time to sell (in a few years) I have seen sealed boxes sell for more then a MS69 and just a few dollars less then a MS70. the reason people will buy it and pay more for it in a sealed box is the hope they get a MS70.

Maybe it's time for a silver pricing grid. But in the long run this may help these items, creating pent up demand as people curse to themselves about not be available. I would still like to see a silver grid.

Don't 'cha think that if they thought an item needed to be repriced they would decide what the price should be and just reprice it??? Probably a 10 min. task in the wee hours of the morning..Why does it take almost two weeks to decide on a price???

Zero sales for 10 days....good business plan

I keep watching the federal register but have seen nothing yet on repricing. I understand they publish there first.

ASE and ATBs back up for sale. Priced right where they were from 10 days ago. Safe to say if silver gets back to about $35.50 these will be going down again.

I think if they sell in this volatility they will get a lot of returns. They are being cautious.

Regrettably, I think that is true. Problem is that people play the game, use loopholes, and then others may want something but can't get it.
I don't like defending the mint nor their practices, but in this case, they are damned if they do, damned if they don't.
