Interesting 1917-S Two Feather Buffalo Nickel

I found this yesterday while looking through some old coin books I bought. It appears to be an FS-401 "Two Feather" Buffalo with some serious lamination flaws on the obverse and reverse. At least I think it's lamination problems and not PMD. Please let me know if you think it's PMD.

I would agree it is likely NOT PMD. This series is rife with coins with planchet flaws.
both sides.
i sent a 2F in for attribution ATS and they won't label it >:-(
along with many other coins i've sent them they would not attribute

There really is nothing there. Totally polished out. Interesting variety that can be found in a few different years.

"A few different years" is an understatement. According to my count there are 33 different date-mint combinations for which a 2-feather Buffalo exists. That is exactly half of the 66 pieces in the Buffalo nickel set.

I believe the full Buffalo nickel series contains 64 coins. But there are a fair number of different date/mm combinations that exhibit this die variety.
<< <i>Neat find... I would have retained that one... Cheers, RickO >>
actually, that's pretty funny.
I really like the 17-S myself.

Our friends "across the street" won't attribute ANY of the abraded dies except the 1937-D 3 legged.
