That coin has been sold by the same seller, at least once, and likely returned. There were other similar coins in the group that shared the same fate.

Interesting coin, but IMO, overpriced. ICBW Cheers, RickO

Not sure I'd want to buy an expensive raw gold coin such as this one on eBay.

I believe this is correct as the prior auction sold for $9,500.

Personally I've been burned too many times to buy anything anymore that is not professionally graded and authenticated. But that is just me.

Didn't this guy sell a $50 Humbert or however you call it along with a bunch of territorial/50's gold tokens just a couple weeks ago?

It looks like a decent VF graded coin, but if it sold for $9,500 before, and they are looking for that much or more now, it's a pass. Why do they try to sell an obvious 4-figure item like this raw? It just makes collectors, such as I, who am attracted to something like this, step back. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

When I see an expensive raw coin like this on eBay I just assume it's been cleaned, tooled, or otherwise messed with. Usually there's a reason a coin like this is raw. Caveat emptor.

Definitely an awesome piece of history, and a super cool date for gold.

I do not believe it is "they" that are looking for more money. I believe that the coin has been returned, and the seller is putting it up for auction again.

Cool piece, and I don't see any red flags (nor would I really know what to look for except the most blatant ones), but if I had $13K (ha!) to spend on a US coin on eBay or anywhere else, you can bet your boots I'd want some TPG plastic with it. That coin should be holdered, and the fact that it isn't makes me (and no doubt some others) go "hmmmm".
