The next big thing... 30th Anniversary Silver Eagle set?

With all the talk on the boards about the 25th set I pose a question to the esteemed members here.

What's the next big thing from the mint? Is it the silver eagle annual sets that are proposed only? Is it the palladium eagles? 2012 burnished gold eagle maybe? Or do we have to wait five years for the already anticipated 30th anniversary set? I have my opinions but I'd love to hear yours!

It's looking more and more like the 25th and a half Anniversary set.

Fractional MS Gold & Platinum Eagles may make a comeback. Big drop in demand for PM's

Based on a recent Mint survey, there is the possibility of limited-mintage annual sets of Silver Eagles. If this occurs, we won't be waiting five years for the next big thing.

This is what I was referring to when I stated the annual silver eagle sets.... but they are yet to be confirmed that they will be minted unless I missed something...

I think the "limited mintage" will be well over 100,000 since the mint got a lot of complaints from the 25th set.

Take a deep breath and relax GOWYOimage. No need to bump a thread after a couple hours because no one has checked their crystal ball yet to tell you what next year's "winners" are. Seriously though, no one here knows what will be a hit next year so I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for. The 25th sets last year were a easy win given the low mintage and foolishly high (at five) ordering limit per household. As of right now the mint hasn't told us about anything like that for 2012 (though that survey makes it clear something may be offered).

Just do what I do... Read the mint sales reports *every* week and watch the numbers. Learn which series can be sold into 2013 and which will go dark at the end of the year. Study what happened in recent mint history and which lines have succeeded and which haven't lived up to the hype. Pay attention to the 2011 coins that they're still offering right now as once they go to back-order odds are they're done (eg. unc Eliza Johnson). Lastly if you haven't already you really should buy Eric Jordan's fantastic book on modern coins:

I know the survey asked for mintage suggestions, but the rumors have been about a 3-coin annual set with household limit of 5 and mintage of 300,000.
  • When I took the survey, it asked what mintage limit you would like. I chose the smallest. i think it was 50,000, maybe 70,000.
  • I suspect we'll be getting a herd of stampeding buffalos in 2013 to commemorate the 100th anniversary.

I believe much of the ambiguity centers around the design of the 3 coins. I believe a high-relief ASE would be a GIANT success and I'm always a fan of the RP. I do believe the annual set would be a positive for the ASE series and previous key issues.

I'm sure you're right...fractionals, an RP buff, a 3-coin set of silver, gold and platinum or palladium?

I think the next biggest thing will be the palladium coins but it will either be short because it is new so value stays low or it gets popular and everyone wants the first one

With what happened with the 20th and 25th anniversary sets I doubt there'll be nearly the same opportunity for resellers - there'll be way too much expectation built in and the mint will likely take advantage of that - if it doesnt kill off any excitement/desirability before then with new 'special issues'.
  • With these proposed special yearly sets do you guys think a 30th Ann set will be special??? I highly doubt it.Hell with the chances of all these special sets the mint may not make a 30th annibversary but rather makea 50th anniversary for those of us who may make it. Doubt there will be a 30th Anni Set

I think an ASE ultra high relief would be the dynamite product of the year... no plans that I know of, just basing my opinion on years of collector observations. Cheers, RickO

I wonder if they have to make it half the size and double thick to get the ultra high relief surface. Would be interesting if they did. Or maybe 3/4 the size. Kind of like a fractional ASE. Or better yet why not do a 4 piece fractional set.

maybe just a high relief, the 1921 Peace was not different in size as an example
