Of course 70 sets will always be worth a premium to sealed sets. After all 70s are the reason people buy sealed sets to try their luck with. The number one reason why I kept all my cases sealed, other than not having thousands extra for grading at the time , was the simple fact that as these climb I'll be able to liquidate them quite easily with no grading fees and no risk that I'll wind up with a bunch of 69s and 68s. Sure I may leave a tiny bit on the table and not fully maximize the sets that I'm flipping, BUT I'm going to do very well and odds are I will probably come out on top based on what I've seen in the grading results threads here and two other forums. Like I said previously, that stack of sealed cases in the corner is looking better with each passing day .

Using that logic, then a 70 set should have a huge premium over a sealed set as the odds of obtaining 5 for 5 out of one set is huge. In fact, looking at some of the recent submittals that have been posted, it appears you are lucky to get one full set of 70's out of 5 sets. If getting 69's is a waste of money (same price as an open/raw set), then it is not really worth submitting a sealed box as you wil be up-side-down on the transaction (unlless you bought them from the Mint or someone else at or near cost). But, at a $1,000 per seal set, after grading fees, selling fee, and shipping fee, you are going to lose money. You even run the chance of getting a 68 or less. I have seen a lot of sets on eBay recently with 68's and like I said, even a 66 (all grades are PCGS). I noticed on the Pop reports, there have even been a couple 63 & 64's. >>
Unlike some, when they let their egos and need to be right get away from them, I won't argue it. What you are saying can be true. What I said has historically be true....you even highlighted that part of my post. If you think collectors are logical, and not gamblers, in items like this, well that is your right
How much for a sealed/unopened GSA morgan box? How much for the odds-on favorite being that it is likely to be a 1883-CC or 1884-CC in MS62/63 maybe 64? Is there a premium for it in the unopened/sealed box?
What are the going rates for a 69 set of the 2006 SAE annv vs that of a sealed box?
I'm not gambling here and I am not playing the game of buying more to flip. I bought mine. My mom bought hers. My friend bought his. When we sell, we sell and are out. Same as a few of us did on previous flips ("us" means either my family and/or my friends, and I). There are a lot of speculators in these threads and some will be right in what they call because they know what they are doing (Wondercoin and a few others), others will be right because even a broken clock is right twice a day, and others won't be right. No biggie.
Until proven wrong, I will believe that the price values will be (1) everything slabbed grading below a slabbed 69 (2) slabbed 69 sets (3) sealed boxes (4) sealed boxes that meet 1st strike (5) slabbed 70 sets
I am only using PCGS in my example above. Not including different labels other than 1st strike eligibility for the boxes but obviously labels are having a play in the "value perceived" on these sets.
Nice thing is, if I am wrong on the above, I am ok with that

Really? Great timing on your part. Obviously you purchased yours at below $700 a set. $700 (+$25 -$25) seems to be the norm now for FS Label PCGS sets...Mercanti labeled ones are slightly higher. NGC 69 sets, on average, show a similar pattern with a larger spread of low to high.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
I believe I'll enjoy my ungraded sets, since I have no intention of selling anytime soon. Don't need a flag or a signature (I don't collect those), the coins look great all by themselves. I'm betting in the distant future, someone might appreciate them just as they came from the Mint. Of course I hear some folks like classic cars painted in wild neon colors too. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
NVM I was trying to put up a formula to represent that if you send a sealed box, purchased at current eBay prices and you get 40 percent 70's you will be in the red.
Another way to look at it is your can buy both keys coins (graded RP70 & MS70) for around $1K (recent complete auctions). Does it make since to buy a sealed set for $1k or even $900?
By the way, I am not saying I am right or that I am wrong, just throwing out some food for thought and have a little friendly conversation. Nothing to do with egos or making some get their panties in a knot, just a simple discussion.
I could be wrong but recent sales have been slightly over 1000 for those 2 keys and nudging 1200............full sets could become the thing to collect if others are splitting their sets up..........unfortunately we will never know how many sets have been split up just to sell the keys.............I say split them if you must but IMO the full set will be worth more to collectors down the road...........and the sealed sets are better off sold to bulk buyers who play the average game......But all this is based upon current prices and these sets have alot of leg left in them............I'll ask in 6 months how everyone did with any version of these..........remember no one pays 500-600 for 1 coin unless they feel it would be worth 800-900 or more down the road

I wouldn't pay 1K for a sealed set but I guess it depends on how much gambler is in you. I really wanted to roll the dice and send my box of 5 in months ago but chickened out and instead sold on the BST for a little under $3,700. I then turned around and bought a Mercanti 69 set on the BST and a Mercanti 70 set from Goldmart. The deciding factor for me was the loose coins due to poor packaging, I would have been pissed had either of the two key coins graded a 68.

Funny the set went high but the singles were a lot lower tonight. You could have put the set together cheaper buying the singles. These 25th coin prices are all over the place on singles. I think the prices for these Mercanti Flags will come down fast or hopefully other label 70 sets will go up.
<< <i>Sooner or later, GM has got to run out of 25th Anny to sell. Object of game at this point - wait out GM. >>
GM initially had a great number of Mercanti 70 sets and without a doubt held prices down to some degree. When they sold out initially a couple/few weeks ago now prices started to move upwards. They've since restocked, sold-out, and restocked again. A couple days ago they had tombstone 70 sets, but nothing else. Now they have just the flag sets for $1400 (which seems like a fantastic price at this point). IMO goldmart is definitely helping to keep prices down with the way they seem to consistently stay under the eBay average. You have to wonder if they'll ever run out of cheap cases to buy and grade or sets to buy as there are only so many to go around and as time goes by more and more find their way to permanent homes.
FWIW, it should be noted that Goldmart gets all p1ssy and sends a nasty-gram to any forum that has a discussion about it. I frequent a couple of other boards and on one of them we received a nastry-gram regarding the Goldmart thread in spite of the fact most all of the posts in the thread were positive. In addition to personally purchasing sets from them, I have sent FOUR other people their way directly and who knows how many others just by talking about them in threads. Long story short I will NEVER buy from Goldmart again or send any more business their way. Honestly I feel like it's my loss on some level as I'm itching to buy two more sets right now, but no way will I patronize their site again given their attitude... I would suggest you guys consider talking to Mitch (wondercoin) or others here in the BST forum before giving GM any business...
I have tried to be candid here all along ... close to a month ago, I became much more of a buyer than a seller of these sets. I personally felt prices of sets got "stupid low". Things are heading back in the right direction now as far as I am concerned. That said, I am probably not the best place to come to buy most of the 70 sets at this point. as quite frankly, I refuse to "give them away". At $1,350 or even $1,395 for the 70 sets, I'll sit on them for 3-6 months. Let's see where the 70 sets are by May or June. I may be wrong (and it won't be the first time), but, I am fairly confident I will likely do better than the 1% interest I would have earned in the bank on the cash.

Goldmart has completely removed the listings for the Mercanti and tombstones, and only has the FS Flag sets.
