    I take it that is a "Roman finish" Matte Proof. The coin is remarkable, but perhaps the reverse is not quite is nice? image

    IMHO real coin, photographed in a way that doesn't show its flaws, whether it be a combo of lighting/shadow, angle, etc. Of course having orangepeel surfaces possibly makes it easier to do this.

    I agree! Only I call it "Photoshopped".

    I can make a VF coin look like that! It would take some time, and photoshop, but it can be just as flawless...just wear.

    My photo processing software is not that good, and photo work makes every defect look worse in the picture. image

    This is a really nice coin, but the photo makes the defects look worse. It's graded MS-66, and it's better than any MS-65 graded example of this type I've seen.

    This Matte Proof-65 eagle, which I sold years ago when I was dealer was a wonderful coin except for the mint caused mark in the date that knocked it down to PR-65.

    If we did a "guess the grade" on Bill's MS66 1908, half of the forum members would grade it 63-64, and the other half would say AU58 or Genuine. Some people would insist that the coin is horribly overgraded, and would never grade 66 again if submitted raw, despite Bill's insistence that it's a nice 66. Many of the collectors on this forum collectors buy the images only. Kudos to those dealers who have figured out how to take great/flattering pictures that minimize the appearance of flaws. It will pay off for you in the long run, and "big-time."

    I haven't finished the reverse yet. It was in an NGC holder with the prongs covering major portions of the rim. That was a real pain in the arse. I'll post the original image in a moment. It is from the latest heritage auction.

    I agree with you Comma, and yes it is a proof. Just to be clear, it is not my coin and it was in the last Heritage auction. I just borrowed the image and Photoshopped it. My goal was just to enjoy the most perfect image of the design that I could come up with.

    Is the 1910 a Sandblast Proof? or Matte Proof? I saw some Sandblast Proofs in a 2010 Stack's auction catalog and they looked exactly like that.
