Ah heck, you can do just one set. You just have to pay for 1,250 coins!
I might consider taking the time to pull some of the nicer coins from all of my Mercanti Flag sets for a possible deal with Absolution, if as part of the deal he promises to never look at another 70 grade coin again with any power higher than 7x.
Since graders can use up to 5x, I figure 7x can still do the trick for those wanting "the best".

There is something to be said about a Perfect /Very Limited 2nd Generation Mercanti Label. I do not see anybody else selling these sets if they do not have 250 sets to submit to PCGS. I might be wrong but i think so far only WonderCoin is selling these sets. Besides WC said in one of his responses above that he will hook up and select The Best 2nd Generation Mercanti coins among his inventory for Absolution if he wants a perfect 2nd Generation set.
CCC2010 ... Don't forget the condition of going down to 7x from 40x for life!
There are -2- other dealers selling Mercanti Flag sets out of the Utah area on ebay right now. I believe one of them has met PCGS' requirements for Mercanti Flag submissions.
Just my 2 cents ... but I would not be surprised to see the differential between Mercanti signed #1 and Mercanti Flag #2 shrinking here soon. And, not that Mercanti Flag will be heading lower in price necessarily for that to possibly occur.

No problem. The PCGS deadline is not to have it in their hands; they go by the ship date on the box/invoice, so all sets shipped prior to 12/8/11 (which means virtually all of them) are FS eligible forever as long as they stay sealed.
So, what keeps someone from just submitting 250 FS sets for reholdering? Why would they have to be sealed? Personally, I would submit 250 FS 70 sets for the new label rather than rolling the dice hoping for 70's.

Who knows what the rules are for Mercanti Flag. All I know is you gotta submit 1,250.
At a conservative(?) $3000 per aftermarket Bo5, that's $150,000 + grading fees. Need a lot of bees in the hive making honey, I guess.
Goldmart is once again out-of-stock on the Mercanti signature 70s. They had increased the price to $1450. The flag 70s are in stock at $1450 and the tombstone 70s are in stock at $1395. I think the Goldmart in-stock sets are still holding prices down.
Might want to do the math on that idea??.......250 sets X 5 coins each = 1250 coins for re-holder...........X 30 per coin (maybe some discount) that comes to 37,500.00 if my math is correct........plus shipping each way........so it might cost you 200 per set to re-label........and then the market will have more of the multi (new holders)..........hardly seems worth it when the signature labels will do just a little under those new labels.........no the best way is still to buy the new label coins if you need too.............and really how many sealed boxes of 5 are left out in the real world (that are for sale)???..........

I was told it was $250 per set, the same as Mercanti version 1. Since it's a 250 set minimum, I'm not sure if that price is discountable, since I'll never be in a position to find out from personal experience.

You are correct about them not needing to be sealed, assuming these labels are eligible for reholdering. Still, it seems like a crazy gamble to take with $37,500, just for a different label on the same exact coin, because it assumes the flag set will sell for at least $150 more than the regular Mercantis over time when there is no evidence to support such a conclusion. The bottom line is that if you like the label and think it is worth a premium, the path of least resistance is to wait for the premium over any other label to come down to a point you are comfortable, and then trade what you have for what you want.
Or you can just wait for the next revision of the label, maybe they will add flowers to it? and require 100,000 thousand sets for minimum submission lol
Anyone that wants one of these new "rare labels" should keep in mind that the two eBay sellers with these in stock likely have 250 of each to sell. So with the bulk grading rate of about 50% getting 70's that means about 250 Mercanti flag label coins will be on the ebay in the next few weeks. The price on these will come down to the levels of the other FS labels soon. Be patient and very soon this labels premium will dissipate. I doubt there are 250 people willing to pay a 20-25% premium for this label .Remember the flag label got big bucks initially then after a few big sales dropped to the level of Mercantis. The other consideration with the flag Mercanti is will it also be as generously graded as the other bulk subs ?

I agree with you NJCoins but my point is, is it worth the gamble sending in sealed sets or is it better just to send in known 70 sets. Using the latter, you are guaranteed getting all 70's back. Sealed sets - who knows. Unless you have a stock of sealed sets (250+) you are sitting on, the premium on the cost to obtain them may be more than the reholder fee.
I recently saw a PCGS 66 on eBay. So, again, who knows what grade you would get.
All in all, I believe the signature label (flag or not) will demand a small premium over the rest when this label game comes to an end. As for flowers on the label, what do you think, roses, daisies or tulips.
"The price on these will come down to the levels of the other FS labels soon"
Dr Fish: I can assure you that my remaining supply of 70 graded Mercanti Flag sets will NOT "come down to the levels of the other FS labels soon". I did just (with hesitation) accept an offer on ebay for $1,875 (which I previously rejected at $1,850 by the way). Now, if you edit your sentence to read "The price on the first generation Mercanti sets may rise close to the current level of the Mercanti Flag one day" ... I could certainly live with that statement.

I don't know. You could say, "I think I will "submit" some signatures labels to be reholdered into Flag labels." Besides, do you think PCGS would say "No!" to $37,500.
Maybe WC could chime in on this and tell us if he submitted graded coins, sealed sets, or a combination of both. With the number of sets he has submitted, he sure had a stack if he had to submit all sealed sets.
Coins101 ... Everything I have submitted to date for Mercanti Flag holders has been fresh, sealed, FS eligible coins. If anyone was going to "make a deal" for "reholdering", no doubt it would have to be pre-approved by Miles Standish who oversees the Mercanti inserts. I am personally not aware of any such deal having taken place yet, but anyone can ask Miles what the terms might be for one. I gave everyone his direct phone number on a previous posting regarding 25th Anniv. sets.

Thanks for the clarification WC. Man, you sure had a boat load of sealed sets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you care to share the ratio of grades from that 250+ sets you submitted for the Signature Flag label?????
I think what some are forgetting is that these sets have only been around less than (or about) 2 months..........A large amount of flippers on these did impact the initial prices ..........while most took the money and ran .......some are slowly buying back in and that is why prices will continue to rise.........demand will also drive prices higher as the supply tightens (and it is)..............look for 1000-1200 a set for sealed sets within 2 weeks IMO

You think that, what is for prediction for graded sets then?
Well it sure helps that WC is getting mid to upper 1800's for his sets as that raises the bar on all of the other regardless of label...........Mercanti sets have been selling for 15-1600 on e-bay.......and the supply is surely tighter if you just count the total listings on e-bay (going from 10 pages to 5)...........there are still people that are sitting on the fence and are waiting for the prices to drop again (that ship has sailed) at least for now..........it would be interesting to record some coin numbers and follow the sales of a set or 2 that have sold (if possible)...........I don't think there will be anyone making thousands again but a couple hundred per set is still kinda nice..............Keep in mind that alot of the sellers also have B&M stores and I'm quite sure they aren't discounting much to their clients..........IMO
Dice, I would think graded sets would still hold a premium over seal sets. So, if your prediction is right, we will be seeing a major upward movement in the price of graded sets. I sgree with you that those who are waiting for lower prices on any of these sets have missed the boat.
<< <i>So, what keeps someone from just submitting 250 FS sets for reholdering? Why would they have to be sealed? Personally, I would submit 250 FS 70 sets for the new label rather than rolling the dice hoping for 70's. >>

Coins - I understand what you are saying. I don't know for sure whether they would allow anyone to switch into this label at all, but I have a feeling that if they do, it would only be from the other signature label, since the signatures cost significantly more to obtain from them than the other labels. Otherwise, you could conceivably switch out flag labels that cost $32 to obtain for fancy Mercantis that cost $50, for an extra $30, which would put your total cost at $62 rather than the $80 that they would like. It would also make the new labels less exclusive if you could switch any combination of labels, potentially even including base $14 labels for them, in which case they would still be fancy Mercantis, although they wouldn't be designated FS. I just don't see that happening. If I had to bet, I'd bet that these are not eligible for reslabbing at all.
While your point about getting guaranteed 70s is well taken, mine is that it would still be risky because you would have to put another $150 into the set over the $250 it already cost to get the original Mercanti slab, and there is a lot of doubt that one signature label set will command a $150 premium over the other once the dust settles.
<< <i>Dice, I would think graded sets would still hold a premium over seal sets. >>
Not necessarily. These coins "should" all grade 69 or 70 (or, the VAST majority should). Therefore, a graded 69 will likely be similar in price to an opened/raw set.
Sealed sets potentially hold 70s in them. Historically speaking (last few years watching moderns), sealed sets therefore hold a premium over a raw/opened set. I anticipate that being true here as well.
<< <i> Not necessarily. These coins "should" all grade 69 or 70 (or, the VAST majority should). Therefore, a graded 69 will likely be similar in price to an opened/raw set.
The graded sets will hold a premium always......but those sets that are graded 69 have little or no chance to get a 70 grade........I mean I guess if you submit enough times maybe??.....if you crack out a lower grade you will lose any FS designation..........maybe down the road that will make less and less of a difference.............SO the only real chance of a 70 grade is to buy sealed sets that have never been looked at or open sets (loosing FS) that haven't been cherry-picked.............and with bulk submission the big guys need X number of sets to get the discount or special label..........So that is why I say that sealed sets have the best potential for price increases.......IMO

Using that logic, then a 70 set should have a huge premium over a sealed set as the odds of obtaining 5 for 5 out of one set is huge. In fact, looking at some of the recent submittals that have been posted, it appears you are lucky to get one full set of 70's out of 5 sets. If getting 69's is a waste of money (same price as an open/raw set), then it is not really worth submitting a sealed box as you wil be up-side-down on the transaction (unlless you bought them from the Mint or someone else at or near cost). But, at a $1,000 per seal set, after grading fees, selling fee, and shipping fee, you are going to lose money. You even run the chance of getting a 68 or less. I have seen a lot of sets on eBay recently with 68's and like I said, even a 66 (all grades are PCGS). I noticed on the Pop reports, there have even been a couple 63 & 64's.

WC said in one of his responses above that he will hook up and select The Best 2nd Generation Mercanti coins among his inventory for Absolution if he wants a perfect 2nd Generation set.

I really like that mercanti label. Been debating on switching my mercanti coin for that but after the hours of trying to get the perfect set i dunno if i have it in me right now. >>
I think I can help make the decision easier for you -- according to a conversation I had with the person in charge of such things at PCGS, those labels are only available to those who submit a minimum of 250 sets (1,250 coins). I am fairly certain you cannot switch out another slab for them, unless you have 1,250 slabs to switch out at once. >>
o.O that sucks. So the flag Mercanti = you have to hire 50 people (5 sets per person x 50 people) in order to get the Mercanti Flag?! =(
ARGH. Just finished up my pristine flawless 70 Mercanti Coin set too blah. Well, guess time to think about this lol. >>
I do not think the idea is to hire 50 people; I think it's to go through a dealer. Definitely the path of least resistance, if you absolutely, positively have to have them.

No problem. The PCGS deadline is not to have it in their hands; they go by the ship date on the box/invoice, so all sets shipped prior to 12/8/11 (which means virtually all of them) are FS eligible forever as long as they stay sealed.
<< <i>So, what keeps someone from just submitting 250 FS sets for reholdering? Why would they have to be sealed? Personally, I would submit 250 FS 70 sets for the new label rather than rolling the dice hoping for 70's. >>
Who knows what the rules are for Mercanti Flag. All I know is you gotta submit 1,250.
At a conservative(?) $3000 per aftermarket Bo5, that's $150,000 + grading fees. Need a lot of bees in the hive making honey, I guess.
<< <i>Goldmart is once again out-of-stock on the Mercanti signature 70s. They had increased the price to $1450. The flag 70s are in stock at $1450 and the tombstone 70s are in stock at $1395. I think the Goldmart in-stock sets are still holding prices down. >>
Does anyone know what the lowest Goldmart price on these was?

<< <i>Might want to do the math on that idea??.......250 sets X 5 coins each = 1250 coins for re-holder...........X 30 per coin (maybe some discount) that comes to 37,500.00 if my math is correct........plus shipping each way........so it might cost you 200 per set to re-label........and then the market will have more of the multi (new holders)..........hardly seems worth it when the signature labels will do just a little under those new labels.........no the best way is still to buy the new label coins if you need too.............and really how many sealed boxes of 5 are left out in the real world (that are for sale)???.......... >>
So, what is the cost to get 250 sealed sets graded with the new label? Beside, I am sure someone with 250 sets will get a deal and the shipping would be way less than 250 sealed boxes.

The Mercanti signature sets were available from Goldmart for $1195 for a very short amount of time on December 13.

I figure that's coins in sealed boxes dated 12/7 or earlier, I don't think "relabel" counts as a submission.
A relabel is an additional service provided for additional fees after the first grading service.
Wondercoin
Maybe WC could chime in on this and tell us if he submitted graded coins, sealed sets, or a combination of both. With the number of sets he has submitted, he sure had a stack if he had to submit all sealed sets.
It appears to me, that 70's graded PCGS coins are moving upwards in price, whereas the 69 graded coins are still moving in the oposite direction.

I agree except the 69's also seems to be increasing. Anyway, they are selling for more $$ than when I bought mine (both sets and singles - all Flag label).
<< <i>Coins101 ...

<< <i>I think what some are forgetting is that these sets have only been around less than (or about) 2 months..........A large amount of flippers on these did impact the initial prices ..........while most took the money and ran .......some are slowly buying back in and that is why prices will continue to rise.........demand will also drive prices higher as the supply tightens (and it is)..............look for 1000-1200 a set for sealed sets within 2 weeks IMO >>
You think that, what is for prediction for graded sets then?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
