First, nice dimes
I'm not a big fan of any prongs, but ... IMO they are better than ATS

I like them.

CJ: 'No one!' [Ain't no angels in the coin biz]
This new holder allows you to see approximately half the rim unobscured,
while also allowing you to see the rest of the rim through mild obscurity.
Hopefully our hosts eventually reduce the circumference of the prong so that
it does not cover as much surface area of the coins rim. That will be the best
improvement with the implementation of this new coin prong holder.
I don't care for them. If coins have special design elements then I think it should be optional. Oh well. Like Jon said, nothin' we can do.

Jon was upset that the electric light bulb was invented
because it interupted his sleep. Dang ol' folk.

<< <i>The old holders obscurred the entire rim when housed in the rubber gasket.

To that I absolutely agree. Much better than the other side.
MMNS grading has a patented holder where the entire rim is seen. I wonder if any of the other grading services will try to work with them and get the rights to use it. They are the only one I have seen so far that has a good solution.

<< <i>Off topic, but what does the big ARSave mean? >>
Another way of putting his copyright on the photo so that others will not use them etc. There have been issues in the past with others snagging his photos so they can sell their lesser examples of a variety on eBay etc. ARS are his initials but ARSave refers to his domain name on the beautiful World Wide Web: www.ARSave.com

I'm somewhat surprised that PCGS didn't buy that "technology" from them. Well look at the bright side. In 25 years these Prongie Thingie 1.0 slabs might just be collectable.
I hated the NGC prong holders at first. I eventually got used to them on the halves that I collect. On smaller coins they are still tough IMO.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Me, too. The patent (8,069,978) wasn't issued until December 2011, so before then there would be a chance that there'd be no patent on it to be licensed, which would make licensing negotiations less straightforward. Maybe their price tag was too high for any of the TPGs, but it would seem that as a grading service, they don't have much of anything else going for them, and they'd eventually become merely a supplier of these rings that could be used in someone else's holders or in proof sets. What I don't know is if they'd actually grip coins securely enough so that they wouldn't be a different type of rattler. All the samples have modern uncirculated coins in them, but circulated bust halves are a different story.

The samples I saw were all modern, too.

<< <i>So, are all newly slabbed coins getting the prong holders now? >>
Not yet. I just got back 3 Lincoln Cents that didn't have pronged holders... I wish they would have though
