Shipping Expensive Coins
Just a curiosity question.....if one has a very expensive coin or a collection, how does one ship them? By expensive, I mean over $100K. I know that businesses use Fedex and then self insure but what about collectors that don't have business insurance? Again, this doens't apply to me.

The option I use is parcelpro.com. For shipments over $50,000 there are special rules. I've always just broken my shipments down to less than $50,000 each. If it is one coin and you can't split it, then you'll have to call them. They made their name in the jewelry business.

Plus the cost of...
* Renting car, or cab fair.
* Lodging... unless you're going to drop and go.
* Your time. If you're going to drop and go, you'll have to be there when they're open. Otherwise you'll use vacation or other personal time. Unless you're self employed or own your own business, and can take off whenever you like.
Starts getting a little more expensive to be a mule, all considered.
<< <i>I email my insurance person ( Barb Wingo ) and buy a ryder. Easy peasy. >>
Ryder rents/leases trucks, right?
<< <i>To send a 2 pound package via Registered Mail with $25,000 insurance (their max) is about $60 or so. Thus, 4 Registered Mail packages with a total value of $100,000 is getting close to the cost of an airline ticket.

<< <i>I am not sure how many of you even step out of your house each day, with all the paranoia I see here. Everything has risks. For me, I would rather handle the deal myself than entrust such a package to a delivery system. Sure, if the plane crashes, bad news.. oh well. Other than that, I am prepared. Cheers, RickO >>
You gonna pack a piece on that trip?
You gonna carry on those coins?
You gonna tell the TSA in advance that yer gonna be showin up with over $100K in coins? Mite wanna have some proof that you own them.

But you don't get a 1/2 oz of peanuts at the post office.
