One of my first coin shows I went to (maybe it was the first), a dealer had about 80-100 20c pieces raw and in rows lining their case.
I thought they were Seated Quarters when I first saw them. Until now that was the most I've ever seen at once....

    .....NOW THAT'S CHANGED!!! image

    Uh . . . . . .

Is this serious or is that photoshopped?

No. You can't do this and not expand . . . what we are seeing is the world's largest collection/hoard/gravity field of 20 centers . . .

Get back here and explain . . . start with TexNats questions . .and expand from there . .

    Sheeeeeeezzzzzz.........

    You guys are too funny!

Yeah, I kinda like double dimes.

    Now some answers...

    TexNat'ls
They range from PO-1 to PF-64. The best date/mm ... that would have to be 75-CC or 76-P ... alas ... no 76-CC

Pistareen ... smart a$$ image Oh ... and that a cool "pre" double dime!

DRUNNER ... yep, never rule out Photoshop ... I have been working a book for, well, WAY too many years. Life and work keep getting in the way! image I have done the die marriage studies, now I just need to photograph and start the descriptions.

Kaz ... nice toning on the reverse!

Astrorat, I'll guess 275 dd pieces.

    I still need the 78 and 77. Can't afford 76-CC.

Oooohhh ... that would be tempting ... assuming the "values" are equal for both parties. Great question!

If you look on the reverse you can see a die break from the wing that travels through the top of United. Not sure if it's more rare or not.

The die break by U in UNITED. A later die state has a larger break. I guess this would be better described as a middle die state.

The 1876-CC splashes are interesting, but kind of a weird product.
And you don't get to see the dramatic doubling in LIBERTY in these....

<< <i>Here is an affordable 1876-CC to add to your hoard

    image >>

I have a couple of those from the first 76-CC die that they found. In fact, Ken brought out a tray of semi-refurbished stating that he did not think there were any twenty-cent dies found. I reached into the box and pulled out the only known 76-CC obverse die (at that time). Ken was surprised I could spot it so quickly, but since I play with that denomination so much, it was kind of natural. He allowed me to make some plastic "strikes" and then later he quite generously gave me some splashes. Ken Hopple is such a great guy (he is the coiner at the Nevada State Museum which is the old Carson City Mint).

Edited to add ... the spashes are neat and I really like them, but Mike is a bit ... um ... optimistic ... on the price. image

Yes they are. I tried to convince the Nevada State Museum director, Bob Nylen (another great guy), to strike limited edition pieces from the cancelled recovered dies and sell them as a fund raiser for the museum, but the idea didn't take hold.

BTW ... to my knowledge, none of the discovered dies have a doubled obverse die so they are not the obverse die that struck THE 76-cc double dime.

Those are nice. I rarely see an 1875-P with that color. It looks like it had a "creamy" luster before it saw circulation ... interesting.

Good grief! No wonder I couldn't find any double dimes to buy at the last Baltimore coin show. You must have 50% of the surviving population. image

Here's an 1875-S I've had for a long time. I'd like to get an 1875-CC to match it or come close. I can't decide if I'm going to go the Mint State or Proof route for the 1875 and 1876.
