Definately not your average looking gold coin

I couldn't resist this toned 1900-S $20 Lib mounted in a sterling silver and gold belt buckle. I rarely see such vibrant toning on gold coins, perhaps the leather belt caused this colorful toning. The toning is more colorful in hand. Please post some toned gold. image

It may more likely be the case that repeated polishing of the coin resulted in the toning from the applied polishing compound.

That was my first thought. It may be a gold plated replica.

While the coin might be lightly polished as so many of the jewerly pieces are, the silver around it and the coin look to have a skin to them that clearly haven't been touched in decades. I think it is a cool piece of Americana with a great look

But I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it!

I wonder if it was more likely the result of cross-contamination from the surrounding silver and the polishing agent was a carrier.

You could end up dead if you did wear it. This piece kind of screams, “Knock me in the head. My belt melts for $1,700.00!"

Yes, I bought it years ago from a friend/dealer and re-discovered it in the SDB.
