Based on what I've seen for cutoff times and what is being delivered to collectors' homes in the last day or two, we are close to having all 100K sets delivered. If not yet, within a few short days.
Thus, the SUPPLY side is nearly all out. With the limits of 5 (yes we all know some people figured out how to beat the system) per household, I feel the majority were widely dispersed as initial buyers. Obviously, the amounts being paid for sets, somewhere around $800-850 wholesale for opened or still boxed sets, has and will result in a re-distribution of large numbers of these sets. With so many sets delivered in such a short time, with large profits on the table for those who own them, and with many sets at grading companies right now, this is a marvelous study in economics. The true demand will eventually set the price on the sets, and we expect that there will be some adjustments as the market for these matures. I would expect to see different pricing for raw sets, sets that grade MS/PR 69, and sets that grade MS/PF 70, and those graded sets with mixed grades. I'm still not sure what to do with my box of five still sealed that I received earlier in the week.
The next few days, weeks, and months will be an interesting study in market economics for these sets as the early trading and certification settle down and the longer-term features settle in. If you are in my shoes, do you hold them for possible future profit, or sell them now anticipating that the supply will be enough for demand and after the initial run-up, the prices will drop somewhat.
I think it really depends on how many people really want these sets, and what they are willing to pay. No one seems to know that yet.
I think demand for these sets amongst collectors was very high as soon as information was released about them and the photo of the set hit the mint website.
Once collectors actually see the set in hand and see how great that mint packaging looks with those coins in that great wood box, I think the demand will be even greater.
<< <i>Decisions, decisions..... Do i take $4k for a sealed set today...............or wait , will they go even higher ? >>
I'm not selling a single box of five until prices have at least stabilized for a bit. View your box(es) as a stock. If it's rising fairly consistently would you sell it? Probably not... Therefore you can either wait for prices to stabilize or simply sell the moment you see them reverse course (kind of like a 'stop loss'). To each their own, but that's what I'm doing with most of my boxes. I'll probably keep the box that is in my name until I'm old and crusty, but I bought most of mine with the intention of turning them into other coins eventually.

The prices for the opened single sets vs. the sealed single sets seemed to have diverged enough that the sealed ones now carry a decent premium to the opened. I sold my first three opened this week because I didn't want to worry about the buyer trying to screw me but with sealed sets going around 900 and opened ones staying in the 750-800 range I think the last 2 are going to be sold sealed after the market develops a bit more.

Not always the easiest thing to do. The dealers have bought so much that once it starts to decline you are limited to how easily you can sell, most of the dealers by then will have stopped buying. Right now it's as easy as using the BST with a respected message board dealer. Once the decline hits you most likely use Ebay, and trust me when they start to decline the amount of ebay users that don't pay will increase a thousand percent. Many will buy and wait to pay a couple days to see if the prices have fallen even more. They then decide if they should honor their first agreement. I took a minus 1300 loss last year on an unopened ATB set last year when this happened.

The way the price continues to rise even as supply increases tells me that there must be a lot of collectors out there who hadn't heard about the set and now that they are aware of it they are scrambling to get theirs along with the accumulating dealers who want to control the future market . IF this is the case...then shortly, when the supply begins to decline...it will be even crazier. I just don't see these settling down like the '06 did for quite some time.

Yes the mint ships to PO Boxes. Sometimes UPS and/or Fedex participate in the shipment. Sometimes you have to refer to both websites to completely track a package.
Two freinds and I were carrying sets in the door to Baltimore show, and we had several folks try and buy the boxes of 5 right out of our hands on numerous occasions. Highest offer we recieved was 4250 cash.
... And it appears at least by way of eBay Completed Sales, unopened sets of 5 may have capped at around $4,250, +/- $250...
Opened, single sets appear to be settling at around $750, a few hit $800+, but on balance, it would seem a ceiling's been established...
Noticed one unopened single set go for $909, and that graded 69 sets hadn't sold at $1,395... A lot of 70 sets hadn't sold at $2,895, though one I had noted sold 2 days ago for that amount... Also saw an unopened Bo3 went for $2,849 - about $950 a set...
I think the peak's just about been reached here...

The market hasn't plateau'ed at all. It's still digesting fresh sets. The real story begins in a few weeks, when all of the sets have been shipped and when the graded coins have been hitting the market for awhile. Don't be in such a rush. Enjoy the coins.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
ebay prices are looking a little tired. Fairly stable but edging downward. MCM took a best offer on a PCGS MS70 set @ $2750. I figured PCGS 70 sets @ $4/$5 K. MCM selling @ $2750 has me thinkin. What do they know? MS70 sets will be common? Maybe. Those PCGS grading waits are looking long all of a sudden. How are those guys doing who bought the PCGS 70 ATB sets @ $6K? I haven't checked are they buried?
I love people telling others what to do with their sets. The truth is, nobody knows what is going to happen with the pricing on these. It is been up and down, but in no way can anybody say what is going to happen.
I sold mine at that price, worked out an arrangment with a guy that we would walk over to the PCGS table and opened it there so he could just buy 4, and I could keep one. That let him get all the special labeling he needed, and me be able to keep one raw intact from the box. I was happy, doubled my money on 4 sets and got one for free.

Prices have peaked and heading lower. PCGS 70 sets in the mid 2k's and heading lower with 1000's of coins yet to be graded at PCGS. Wow this flip played out quickly. Those that sold raw sets this past week look to be the big winners of this flip. Time will tell but with PCGS 70 sets selling this cheap this quickly I see storm clouds on the horizon.
Hello, You need to look again at completed 70 set sales............3000+ is not chump change............and if you could be lucky to get 2 sets of 70's out of 25 coins sent in the 69's are gravy gravy!!.......and word has not spread there are collectors and normal people that haven't heard of this set yet.............calm before the storm

We're in the middle of a battle and just like in a war, it's very tough to tell who's winning and who's losing in the midst of the action (that's why they call it the fog of war).
Ultimately, these WILL be winners simply because the demand will far outstrip the supply...with only 100,000 how can it be otherwise?
Now if you pay absolute top dollar for a "perfect" 70 set...you might get burned...but if you only paid $300/set...you'll always be in good shape.
And trying to predict a market based on every twitch and turn is impossible. That's like being able to predict the stock market by watching CNBC...and we all know how predictable that is!
Does it make any sense to just collect a PCGS 70 of the Reverse Proof and S mint mark coins? What would currently be a good target price for buying the pair?
I don't know if I am a winner or not but I have sold 10 of my 14 sets so far and have doubled my money and still have 4 sets to go. Two are off to ANACS and I have one sealed set and one opened set.
I have boxes of 5 to sell if the money is right and the deal is right.............until then they will sit...............(not an advertisement to sell or fishing for offers).........I even listed on the BST with the terms as stated.......IF or WHEN the deal seems right they will go too new owners........and I am sure many are doing the same thing...........really add up the sets listed on e-bay and the sets on the BST and you have less than 5000 sets (give or take).......smart money is holding to see where the market will go.......OR many sets are being cubbyholed for a later date

You are almost right. Guess it depends on your definition of "dropped like a rock". The sets were sold at $100/set. They went up to ~$800 for sealed sets, if I recall. They are around $400 right now (had gone down to ~$300/set for awhile). You still consider that "dropped like a rock"? I call it acceptable but too bad about missing the top.
There have been other flips that did drop like a rock. Not these, at least, not in my definition.
<< <i>Geezz.. I Don't know,,, a $500 drop,,, Seems like A Rock to me.. Thats more than Half... >>
Well, that's your definition then. I think 3-4 times issues price is not "dropping like a rock" as I take "dropping like a rock" to generally mean close to issue, or, like some items, below issue price.
Quite sure they some naysayers that would love if these sets dropped like that............and that is when they will buy again and then talk about how the sets will outperform any recent mint offering.........fact is 100K mintage and not enough supply to meet demand............play that market any way you wish but don't expect to be stealing these for close to issue...........
These are 300/set, so 8X is $2400 a set! Settling around $1200 would be great.
but...then you have to consider that these are like 40% the mintage so you can probably bump those numbers up.
3000/set before settling? Makes it hard to sell right now for sure. Sets of 70's are selling for 3000 a set. Depending on the news of my own sets at pcgs...I just may have to scarf up a couple 70 sets.
