  • I thought that as well with the 20th Ann Set...

It's not the same once removed from the Set display box...

Then they look just like any other ASE that's out there...

Tex... I will get some photos up...

  • Perhaps one day these will be like the GSA Morgans - once the PCGS designated GSA was the premium coin, now it seems folks want to have the original GSA holder ones, certified or not! In any event, I bought mine to keep and admire - to me the best way to admire and display is in the awesome blue mint box they came in! Yup, lost the ability to get a special slab on three of them, but I will always know they are what they are!

Now, after seeing that pic, I like the box. Still wish it was more proof/unc 4pc buff in color and look but I guess it had to stay in series. If its real wood I've got ideas, and a small cnc mill. Items like that make great NIXIE clock bases. But now ii will be a slab holder too.

it really is a stunning set, but tell you what, the RP is by far the cleanup hitter in that lineup. there's a reason they put it in the middle slot. without the RP the sets would have minimal appreciation. enough glitz to bring in the casual or novice collector!
  • I prefer DenverDave's set. image

I mean the already graded set, just above, of course. image

  • image Round of applause for the great pics. The Mint did botch some things but they managed to make a homerun set, and insanely, it looks like the same box will fit the graded coins from PCGS!

The RP is a key, but also remember the "S" mint unc in the batting order after the RP. The rest of the coins are common, but it sure makes a nice display with the different types.

The material is also real solid, and I like that its not fake woodgrain. It has a modern, yet classy look.

I also like the way the coin capsules fit into the slots.

Wait until they start to develop those BEAUTIFUL Milk Spots image ,,,,,,,, and we all know alot of them will image

    Just sayin' GrandAm image

P.S. I think this has alot to do with the .999 fine alloy as I have many .900 fine Modern Commemoratives and NONE of them develop Milk Spots.

I use to have (2) raw sets of Silver Eagles that I was putting together for my sons. Every year when I got the new coins I would get the albulm out to add the new coins and find another 2 or 3 coins with Milk Spots that were not there the previous year. After a few years I said the heck with it a sold the sets. I even had each Eagle in a KoinTain tight fit capasule and still got Milk Spots. Too bad they are such beautifully designed coins but the risk of spots is too great to suit me. image

Nice presentation by the US Mint. It almost makes me wish I would have bought a set. image

It's nice to see somebody actually enjoying the coins rather that the potential of making a profit. One could say that it's ... now, what's that word ... oh yeah, numismatic.

  • Such a shame, all those beautiful sets in their original displays destroyed for the sake of higher profits. Kinda like legal coin doctoring.

Do you live in a high humidity area. I have hundreds of silver eagles and have had no milk spots at all.

I live in New Mexico which has very low humidity,

Same here in Colorado, never had a coin spot but most of mine are raw as well...

The Mint says it's form the annealing process where water was left on the surface to dry...

Maybe they figured out how to dry them by now..."-)
