for the LaFoe family! It's 1865 and earlier for us from this date forward (exluding bullion and future ex-wives)!

<< <i>So why the switch? >>
More than likely population losses coupled with the fact that Moderns can be an extremely narrow market.
In other words, once the registry is satisfied, there goes the market.
Example:
I bought this coin off of Teletrade for around $13 bucks after shipping and taxes. (Tuesday Auction-No Buyers fees)
Look up the cert number and check out the "Price Guide" value.
Yes, some actually sold for that amount.
The name is LEE!
<< <i>congratulations! Significance of 1865? >>
It's the end of the Civil War (it's also the end of No Motto gold).

<< <i>So you're saying you won't be posting any 1933 gold for us? >>
Of course I would... since it's modern bullion!

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

Me either!! I quit after 1, I learn faster than you do....or do I? LOL.
I like your approach on the early stuff. I switched to the earlier stuff (pre-1865) about a year ago and am having lots of fun with it. Picked up a Fugio, 1795 Large Cent, 1849-O Gold $, 1812/1 Half and find them a LOT more interesting to me than any of the post Civil War era coins. It may change again, but for now it works and so I get where you are coming from. Now, if you can track down all of that PCGS AU58 CAC gold you're hunting in the BST you will be truly hooked!

No motto gold was struck in 1866.

I also much prefer the earlier material, Having said that, thanks for the SBA 1999-D MS-68.
My recommendation is Key Dates in highest grade within budget.
Good luck on wherever you start!
There were a lot of interesting coins minted after 1865 ...
Now if you had said 1965, I would be in close to full agreement.
I hate to correct you, but your wrong about the end of no motto gold.
In 1866 three gold coins from San Francisco were struck sans motto. The $5, $10 and $20 coins all came with motto and with out motto that year.
Here is a $5

Okay, it's the end of the Civil War and 1866 is the beginning of Motto gold... is that better?

<< <i>also, "ex-wives", right? ex wives? ex wives ex wives, can't get enough references to ex wives
I pay for them... I might as well get my monies worth!
